Hey guys i'm looking at picking up a MTAC holster for a 1911 and was curious. The website says it sits well at 4:00 but I carry closer to 3:00. Do any of you guys carry with the MTAC closer to the 3:00 position?

i haven't had an issue at 3:00

I wear mine around 3:30, it wears fine at 3:00 also, it's very adjustable.

Yeah the adjustability is one of my favorite parts the MTAC. I was just curious from experience what you guys thought about how it rides at 3:00. I've been using a blade-tech and it's okay. I find myself constantly wanting to adjust it since it only has 1 belt clip.

It’s got all the adjustment you need to make it work for you at pretty much any position IMO. When I carried at 3, I liked the gun a bit lower and with almost no cant. The MTAC gives you that ability.

I carry at 4 with it. I have a 30 inch waist and my G26 blends better with the hips at that position.

Well i've been carrying in a blade-tech at 3 to keep the grip from digging in but I think once I switch to the MTAC it will provide more padding between my body and the grips so I may end up wearing it a little farther back.

I've been thinking about getting one of these. How badly does the kydex scratch up your firearm?

That'll depend on the finish of your firearm.

I've had a Glock 19 in my MTAC for just over a year now and you can't find any holster-wear at all.

On the other hand, a friend of mine has a Kel-Tec PF9 in a kydex holster from a different manufacturer and after only a month or so his finish is rubbing in places.

I carry my 3" Springfield Micro in an MTAC at 3:30 and have no issues.  Tucked or untucked, the MTAC makes my 1911 disappear.  No holster wear to speak of after 3 years of daily carry, but I have a bi-tone model wiht the stainless slide so that might make a difference there.  Hope that helps and best of luck...

No issues with my MTAC, but I'm carrying all Glocks.

slight rub mark on my 1911's slide, its a tool and with use it will get some scuffs.  Now if I had dropped it off a balcony on to cement or something...that would be different.

I carry my G19 at the 3 o'clock postion with a little forward cant with no problems.

I carry at 3 and it works fine.
As for wear......I have carried my G23 everyday for about 2 yrs and there is holster wear but to me its a tool so I don't mind.

I carry my XDm more around 4:30 but that's more because I typically carry under a normal size tshirt and at 3:00 I'd print like crazy but at 4:30 it disappears.

You'll be fine.  It'll carry wherever.

You're carrying it, so it's going to get wear.  Leather side vs. kydex side.

I had no issues with that until I had a job for 6 months or so that was a bit dusty, and dust got in-between the gun and the kydex and wore the gun a little bit

And there is the issue.

the kydex alone will cause minimal wear if any.

Its the dust/dirt than gets between the gun and the kydex that will cause your wear.
same deal with leather
