I just got my new MTac delivered to work and the thing looks amazing. I can't wait to get home try my Glock 27 in it. While at work though I'm just wondering about how to make sure about the optimum fit. I know when I get home to put my Glock in there and tighten or loosen but is there an exact science or just a feel of how you like it? How do you guys get the right fit?

I have had a MTAC for my G 23 for close to 2 years now and I think it's a great piece of gear. It's definately not an exact science it's just what's comfortable for you.

I can tell you I was still "tweaking" the cant and retention for a few months after I got it until it was juuust right and now that it's broken in (and with a good belt) I hardly know it's there.

I figured it was a trial and error thing. I guess ill know more when I get home and I'm able to try it out. I was just wondering if there were a few tricks to getting proper adjustment.

It took me about 2 weeks of carry with both my MTAC and my CTAC to get the retention tightness exactly where I want it. You can fool with the cant too, but it didn't take me long to find the cant that felt right for me.

So to get a ball park what did you do? Put the pistol in the holster and tighten until snug?

I pretty much store my pistol in the holster, but it's carried and handled/wiped down daily, so yea I adjusted it snug. The leather backing will eventually take the imprint of the gun and "break in" and you'll probably eventually need to adjust retention just because of that. Of course using it: sitting, getting in and out of your vehicle, practice drawing, how you set the cant, where on your body you decide to carry, etc., will dictate fine tuning of retention to your comfort level after that.

Heck, playing with the holster is kinda fun

Hope this helps.

Yeah, I set it to a tightness and then ran some draw drills. If it was too easy to get in and out and didn't give me a decent "click" I would tighten it. If it got to the point that the holster didn't want to let go and was tough to get the gun re-holstered, I loosened it. You'll eventually find the happy medium that works for you.

The cant should be set at the natural angle that your palm has with respect to the grip based on where you wear the holster IWB, 4 o'clock etc. If you have to cock your hand at some angle other than what's natural when you reach back to draw the weapon, the cant needs to be changed to fit your draw stroke.

Pics of the new rig. I just took it for its maiden voyage to oh no, Walmart.

I got the belt loops adjusted to the way that I like them. Im still working on the gun retention. Its still a little loose, but ill get it there.

After you carry it for a little while the leather backing will begin to conform to the shape of the pistol a bit. As this happens, the retention will gradually loosen. So it may be a week or so of some tweaking before the retention gets to be where you want it.
