My father recently gave me a 3" Ruger sp101 for xmas. This pistol has been carried by my dad for almost 10 years. I have seen this thing on him every time he leaves our house. He recently picked up a model 37 smith and it is half the weight of the SP so he has started carrying that as his EDC. The SP became MINE! MUAH HA HA HA!
ANYWAYS, I am looking to get some info on upgrading this firearm. I have seen the upgrade springs, some pretty shady grips and a few kidex holsters. I am looking for a line on a shop that installs rear adjustable sights or something along the lines. I am currently shooting 4 inches left at 15 yards. I tried shooting some different loads out of it this past weekend. Impact changed with a few loads but all still stayed left. I had also noticed that the barrel may not be turned INTO the receiver 100% of the way. I have to invest in a depth gauge and see if it is just an optical illusion or not. Trying to find some different grips. I have a set of Uncle Mikes that are not to bad and the factory rubbers. The factory ones are a much better set of grips. Also looking for a few more holster ideas. I currently have it in a pancake style holster, its great but large. Was thinking about a shoulder holster set up or a cross draw. Ordered some speed loaders for it, anyone have any other suggestions on this? Thanks a ton guys, as usual. Bev

I can run 5 shots into a ragged hole with my blackhawk at the same range. This MAY be the case but, I do not think that I am. I can bring the group the the right with sight picture adjustment. Another reason I do not think that it has to do with my grip or pull/ flinching. When I bring the front sight to the right hand side of the notch in my rear sight it will line up and hold center. I am thinking it may have something to do with the barrel needing to be turned in a little more. Any idea on that Sniper007? This is going to be my EDC soon and I want it to be running like a sewing machine when its on me. Thanks, Bev

Have you thought about cutting the barrel for a dovetail front sight to ensure your POA and POI coincide? The Trausch grips, IMO, rock. Good luck with what ever you decide. Bill |
| It is VERY common on SP101's to have their barrels out of "square". I have a 3" that shoots way off because of it. It is very obvious on my SP101, you can see that the barrel is not aligned correctly with the frame. I've lived with it for a good number of years, Ruger said they will fix it for me, but I've yet to send it in. |

agreed on the canted barrel .. but lets remember that barrels can be canted for a reason ... its happened on a LOT of revolvers smiths included .. mine has a 1 degree cant IF that.. its very very minor ..
IMHO the factory grips cause you to pull to the left (dry fire and watch, its an issue i had with my 2.25") all that being said .. wolf springs - $14 shipped from brownells (im using the 8# trigger and 12# hammer, 10# didnt let me feel it chamber and was too light for CCW to me, 9# i never tried) trigger job - DIY (i did mine, first gun i ever had apart and its sooooo smooth now) grips - im a fan of my badgers (see below) other mods - light carry melt on mine i did myself, smoothed out all edges and took a bit off the hammer for sights ... eh, your call ... gemini can do nice stuff too, but i would just change out the front to a gold dot gemini or a fiber optic or XS depending on your likings ... remember to line up the sights per ruger instructions and keep the top of the sight on the bottom of the target anyways ... its a 3" ... and if its your first time shooting it that isnt horrible .. give it more range time and work on the action some to make it easier .. lots of people think the hogue grips are nice .. but they dont work for me with CCW .. imho anything larger than stock helps with the pulling to the lefft
