Scroll down a few posts to see the pics...

I purchased some mags that came today.. want to see if they are what I think they are..

No pics, but the description should be good enough.

Blued
Marked COLT .45 AUTO
Colt Pony on floor plate
M in the top right corner of the floor plate
7 round follower, has a raised bump on top, pretty much dead center
Mag body has witness holes for 8 rounds
Welded floor plate

Metalform?

Does it say COLT 45 or COLT .45?

That period is, many times, all that seperates the el-cheapo poorly made South American 1911 knockoff mags, vs. the real deal good factory Colts..

(I know you said .45 but I just want to make sure )

No period actually...

Just says it like this:

COLT
45 AUTO

And to the left of that is the Pony.

Did they duplicate the pony?

It's entirely possible...can you post a pic of it, so we can see what font it's written in?

Have you got any pics of a fake?

Infact, here is what the floor plate looks like.

Not my pic. Either the camera sucked or wasn't focused right in that pic, but yeah. I'll take a better one this evening..

This one I found on eBay looks like a fake.

Mec gar is the manufacturer.

Good mags. Any NIW USGI mags should be considered a fake or a reject unless you know what you are looking for.

Yes, that is a fake. A very poor one at that.

Even USGI mags were made pretty damn well, I have most of the manufacturers from WW2 and tho some are a bit different [The Korean war RIAs are quite different] they are all well made and run ball ammo flawlessly.

Well, I grabbed one out of the lot tonight and it seemed to work fine, though only 14 rounds. I'll run another 100 through it if I can get time in the morning before work... if no issues I imagine it really is a Colt.

I did't think Mec-Gar made any welded floorplates?

Also.. 10 of the mags have 6 witness holes(for 8 rounds) and 2 of them have 5 witness holes(for 7 rounds). All of them are 7 rounders and marked the same on the floor plate. Someone said that the M stood for Metalform..

So the absence of a . before 45 absolutely means it is a knock-off?

I have 4 mags lacking the period, two of which I am positive came with my NIB Colt Compact 1991 when I bought it ten years ago.

I'm sure the two that came with my pistol are genuine Colt, unless some dirty bastard distributor swapped them out before reaching my FFL.
