I bought a used magazine for my G30 recently.  I tried to load it up and had a real hard time getting 10 rds in.  I decided to take it and one of the ones I got with the guna apart to see what the deal was after noticing the followers were different.  The magazine in the one I just got was a lot longer than my original and the followers are very different.  Is this a spring and follower from a G21 magazine?

The spring and follower on the left, are from the newest generation of Glock magazines.
The one on the right is from an older magazine.
The new follower will not work in the old magazine, unless the magazine is trimmed
away to accomodate it. The old follower will not work in the new magazine, due to the
excessive clearance in the new magazine. (The old follower will pop out completely, if put in to the new magazine.)
Also notice, there is a difference in spring width.

Thanks.  That doesn't explain why it was so hard to load 10 rds into the magazine and then it wouldn't seat with the slide forward.

Glock magazines "are" usually hard to fully load.
Load it with 9 rounds for a couple of days, then after, put the 10th round in.
I have used both type magazines in my G30 that you picture.

Thanks.  Thinking back to when I bought it, I seem to remember that being the case.

New Glock mags are hard to fully load.  Load up a mag with 10 rds and leave it that way for a couple of weeks.  You'll notice that its easier to load.  With use it gets better.

When you get the mag about half loaded, put your thumb over the last round in and smack the base of the mag against your palm while pushing down on the round.  Do that aftter each round you put in as well as occasionally smacking the spine of the mag against your palm to line the rounds up.  What this does is line up the coils of the spring as you load the mag so they compress inside each other.  This is the easiest way to get that last round in.  You will have to load them that way several times before everything sets in the right way.  Works every time.
