I'm going to be buying my first AR next year, but I am also looking at getting a pistol too. Is the M&P a good buy or should i look at other pistols?

I have the MP40 and really like it, but there are a lot of very good autopistols, look around.

My M&P has replaced my Glocks as my primary ccw pistol. Mine is accurate, feeds all types of ammo without a problem, and has awesome ergonomics.

I paid $515 for mine about 3 months ago.  Only reason mine cost that much is because I ordered it with night sights.  I have seen non-NS equiped pistols going for around $415.

I am picking up my M&P 9MM 8/30 (waiting period) and if it's as good as I hear I will be buying one in .40 next week.  I can the .40 with standard sights for $499 from my local dealer  .  Could someone direct me to a less expensive online source?  I spent a lot of time looking but couldn't find anything cheaper than the local dealers price when you consider the shipping and FFL fee.  Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks

Check with some online vendors such as Flanagan's Gun shop out of Meriden MS (I think).  They often have good prices on most pistols they carry.

I recently attended my companies training program for transitioning employees from revolvers to DAO S&W 5946 & 4046 automatics.

The Director of training explained to me that the company had just finished evauluating the M&P 40 and was purchasing 2000 units for the Cananda portion of the company and would be filling future orders in the US with the M&P 40 instead of the 4046tsw.

I had an opertunity to handle the M&P 40 and found it impressive.

Thanks for the link to the M&P pistol forums.

BTW, I like the first bit of your sig line, too.  We just bought that movie for our daughter and I friggin' love the penguins.  The DVD has a pretty good animated short that features them, too.

I'm in Ohio, I took a look at a m&p in .40 cal a few days ago, Brand new standard sight models were going for $435.00, that was with the lockable case all 3 backstraps and 3 highcap mags too.they also have some loaner test & evaluation guns that are still loaned out, they told me I missed one loaner gun by 1 day and it sold for $325.They may have a few more coming in, so I'll wait until then to purchase one.

Yeah, they had a good deal on mine too when I got it. I paid $390.

It's a great pistol! I'm very impressed with mine.

Like was said earlier, tho, there are lots of good pistols out there....find one you like and get the best quality you can afford.

It doesn't really say on the website how many mags it comes with. That is something we need to find out. Some dealers make it standard procedure to rob mags out of the box.

I bought 3 M&P pistols from Bud's at the $399 price.  Got two 9s and one .40.  One of the 9s is for my son to use.  They will be at my FFL early next week.  Bud's is a legit place.  The website didn't say how many mags then either but gave the S&W model # and S&W states it comes with two mags and interchangeable palmswells.  Just ordered another .40 last night for my son to use.  Can't resist a bargain.  It's as bad as the ammo disease.

From my Bud's order: 1 x Smith & Wesson M&P40 209200 40SW SS NO LOCK 15RD $369.00
S&W states the 209200 comes with two mags and that's what you gotta get.

Edited for spelling.

I can't understand why S&W does not list the model #s of the weapons with no mag safety.  You won't find the 209300 on their website.  I don't think its for LEO only because you can order them from Bud's.  My first M&P came with no mag safety or lock and I didn't even order it that way.  Fine by me.
