I'm getting my first semi auto pistol pretty soon. And I realy like the M&P but what i want to know is the .40 any better than the 9mm. I'm a poor college student so saving a few bucks on the 9mm ammunition is pretty nice but is there a big enough increase in power to warrant paying a little more for the ammunition.

I have the 9mm. IMO you'll be able to get more proficient since ammo costs are so much cheaper and you'll practice more. I buy the Monarch green box ammo at Academy Sports for practice. Then when I carry I load it up with Speer Gold Dot 124gr +P hollow points. I don't feel undergunned at all.
