Why are some smith and wesson products like their AR-15's and some of their pistols dubbed M&P and others S&W?  what does M&P stand for?  military and police model?

M&P = Military & Police

There's a history behind it.

Their Model 10 revolver was the old M&P

Modern times call for modern solutions...so they upgrade the title to the new M&P line of pistols. Not only for Military and Police, but up to great standards for those who serve.

I suppose when they decided to jump on the market for AR's, they added the title to that, with the same quality of title in mind

I'd like to see it (M&P9) replace the Army M9.

4000 of your police officers down there picked up the M&P in .40 caliber, I believe.

No that was in a place and time when men were not super beings and .38 S&W would kill people, now  not       even the .38special
will  kill people!    I think the Model 10 emproved through many gen till the Mod K-38 untill the Mod 14 ,15             then the Mod 66 and then
the K frame was just too small to handle the .357 Mag !

But thats where it started the M&P K-frame !
