This M&P40c is brand new, never fired. The first M&P shown is my full size .45, which I have ZERO issues with. Just using it as a comparison for how I thought one should operate.

ISSUE #1: Take down lever on the compact will not stay in the down position 99% of the time, even if I hold it in place for a few seconds. I seem to randomly get to stay in place but the slightest breeze seems to snap it back. I have to hold it in the down position while I remove/install the slide also.

ISSUE #2: The stainless StormLake 9mm conversion barrel also does not work. The feed ramp is longer, and I believe it is making contact here as the slide is pulled to the rear.

I will make some measurements on both barrels and post pictures of what I find tomorrow.

I need some opinions. I plan on calling both S&W and the seller of the barrel obviously but I would still like to see if anyone has experienced either of the issues and how it was handled.

As far is issue #1 goes, it's a non-issue.  Just hold the takedown lever down until the barrel locking lugs clear it.  My 45c does this, and I have read numerous others who have the same "issue".  When re-assembling my 45c, the takedown lever snaps back up on its own as soon as the barrel lugs clear it as well.

Darren

Ok, so is this just a compact quirk then?

I think it's more of an individual gun quirk, but it may be more prevalent with the compacts.

I have to ask a bunch of really obvious questions to get a handle on this.

Are you able to reassemble your pistol with the Storm Lake bbl?
Does the slide function without a magazine?
Are you using a 9mm magazine?
Does this locking happen dry, or just with ammo in the magazine?

Details, man. Details!

The slide will not cycle to the rear with the Storm Lake barrel installed. It gets stiff and eventually stops just short of being able to engage the slide release lever. I kind of demonstrated this in the video, maybe not very well. Magazine is not in at this time. If I reinstall the S&W .40 barrel everything goes back to normal, mag in or out.

As far as 9mm magazines go, I'm holding off on buying 9mm mags until I figure out if this is going to work or not. My situation is the first issue I've been able to find so I'm guessing I got the wrong barrel, or a faulty one.

One other thing I've noticed is the logo on my barrel is an "SL" design, and others that I've seen actually have Storm Lake engraved.

I would contact SL and ask them about it. Sounds like something is off.

As far as the take down lever, mine does the same thing.  It was a pain at first, but now I've got it down to a science.  Can't help you with your barrel issue so I'de call Storm Lake and get their input.

Well, I played with the guide rod a bit by pushing it up towards the barrel (with the slide locked back) and I can now consistently get the take down lever to stay in the down position. So I'm not going to worry about it.

I will give Storm Lake a call and update this once I hear what they say.

Storm Lake is sending me a shipping label.
