Long story short: I had an M&P40 for a number of years, and had to sell it because I needed the money. I'm window-shopping to replace it with an M&P9 whenever my tax return comes in.

I found this one:

on Buds Guns online. I've heard some good things and some bad things about them, but I digress.

Anywho, is this a factory threaded gun, or something that Buds threw together? If it's a factory threaded gun, when did S&W start selling them?

It's a new factory offering that they've started offering in the last few months. Excellent deal compared to aftermarket threaded barrels.

Well, I'm on that like a fat kid on Twinkies. Thanks.

They changed the threading from the old factory threaded barrels as well. The old ones were in  M13.5 X 1 LH. They came on a spec-ops engraved model if I remember right. They also sold them as a separate item if you called them. The factory barrel was under 100 bucks if I remember right. It didn't come with a thread protector. I think the kit they sell now just has the second barrel bundled in the box. Either way it is a good deal.

Correct. This new kit has a 1/2x28 thread.
