What do y'all think about the Maritime Spring Cups you can put in your glock? I know most of you, like myself, never plan on shooting your Glocks underwater but do you think it would be worth picking up a set, you never know right? Does anyone have them installed on theirs? I don't think they would effect performance but does anyone know for sure? Thanks guys.

The maritime cups are only for use in the Glock 17 (9mm full size). I only carry a Glock 27 in .40S&W, so the point is moot.

Well thank you sir. That answers that, I have a 21 and 30.

The Maritime Spring Cups can be used in ANY Glock pistol.

They are designed not for shooting underwater, but in environments where the pistols will be exposed to alot of water...................in case water does get into the Firing Pin Channel, it promotes reliable function.

Putting them in your Glock will not affect performance in any way really, good or bad.

I have them in all my 9mm's. For 10 bucks, what the hell....they are easily installed and cost almost nothing. I say why not.

I think I'll pass.

I have had them in my 19 for a year.  They have not affected performance in the least.  I don't think I will ever have to fire coming out of the water but I can if I want.

Or you are being evacuated from a flooded city, but that seems unlikely too, oh wait, that's right.....

You don't get to pick your self defense scenario, it picks you. They won't all be Hollywood like Dirty Harry's.

Are you and your gun prepaired for anything, including water?

FMJ's only if underwater.

So wait a minute, without them a glock won't go bang after being wet?  Say I tip in a canoe and when I get out I need to shoot something...will she go bang or not?  (assuming the ammunition is not compromised)

Yes, it will still go bang after bein' in water, most likely.  The Maritime Spring Cups just make it more certain that it'll go bang.

Here is what the difference between the two looks like.

The maritime has channels cut into the cups to allow for debri and water to pass by.

Yup, all they do is let water (or excessive oil) flow past the firing pin without slowing it down.

It increases the chance of your gun firing after being submerged.

When you live, work and play around water, why not?

Most people also turn their noses up at waterproofed ammo (sealed primers and case mouths), but it seems like cheap insurance to me

OK, so I go overboard a little, Katrina/New Orleans really hit home with me. I live on the Mississippi too, just further north (waaay north).

Maybe I will think about getting some then, for insurance.

Yes, but only the G17 (read 9mm glocks with FMJs) are meant to fire underwater.  40 can be unsafe to fireunderwater.

Many handguns will work underwater.  There was a test in the 80's using revolvers and 1911s and they all worked well.  The mariner spring cups just help to ensure reliability under water.

I'm still undecided but, I may end up putting a set in mine. Cause you never know I may be out at the ranch in a canoe on a creek, fall in, and when I get out there's a hog in my way.

How else are you supposed to shoot it if you happen to find it after your boating accident...

There are those who would say that the .40s are unsafe to fire at all.
