I have been toying with the idea of starting a build to do this.
I'm not talking about the extreme melt that Clark Customs does just a smoothed down version. I saw one,I think it was GreenBastard that posted it that is what I'm looking to do. Any input would be nice. Oh base gun would be a champion springfield in 45 |
| They're easy to get on the phone too. I contacted them about a bull barrel for my champion to go suppressed. $290 to have an oversized fitted to my slide and threaded to match the suppressor of my choice. And a thread protecter. He said "we can do anything you can imagine to your 1911 and about 250 things you've never imagined" give them a call. |

I've had Karl Sokol build 2 melted 1911s for me and they are great carry guns. Look into a EGW melt bushing... When contoured in it gives a cool rounded front profile. Mine are both like a 2 week old bar of soap except for the checkering and VZ grips Do you have a pic or two, would really like to see them. |

Great guns... I'm very pleased with them.
One started out as a Colt 1991 and the other a Springfield basic GI model. I prefer the reliability of a 5" gun as anything shorter begins to shorten the amount of time the gun has to open, eject, and reload itself. Some people don't care to loose the classic lines of the 1911 by doing such an extreme melt but for me it's more about function. In a good holster you won't see a huge difference but in the past I've often carried tucked in my waistband on and off duty and the melt really shines. Both guns have numerous parts swapped out and improved along with stippling. I prefer checkering now but the stippling isn't bad. I can't recommend Karl Sokol highly enough... Reliability was paramount in these guns and they deliver 100%. His work is top shelf. |
