Alright,
Some of you may remember my Miller custom "retro" build.  Anyway, I sent it back to Bob to have some edges smoothed out and to have a beavertail put on.  Well, I got it back about three weeks ago and finally got a chance to shoot it yesterday.  Good God, what a difference!  I positively LOVE it.  It shoots even better than before (amazing what comfort will do).  He smoothed out the 10-8 trigger face perfectly.  There's still enough texture on it to help keep firm contact, but no sharp edges.  I was able to put 350 rounds down range with no discomfort whatsoever let alone blisters etc. (I guess I have "thenthitive" fingers ).  Accuracy was freakin' ridiculously good and felt recoil was very little (beavertail combined with EGW fp stop) which allowed fast accurate follow up shots.  I was able to keep everything in the "x" of a B27 pretty much as fast as I could acquire a sight picture.  The YoBo retro rear sight is fantastic and allows (for me) the perfect combination of speed and precision.  As for Bob, I can't possibly say enough positive about him.  He helped me (a neophyte in terms of custom 1911's) find out really works for me and did it with patience.  He made the whole process enjoyable.  He WILL be getting more business from me.   Anyway, here are some new pics.  Now if my Garrity leather would arrive soon.....

Beautiful! Congrats on a fine piece of functional craftsmanship and beauty. I'm a believer in the format, mine is at Yobo's right now for the 1* Enhanced w/additions. Enjoy!

Great looking gun ! A real beauty and another quality pistol from Bob Miller.

I'm awaiting my Colt 1991 ORM Government from Bob. He called me the other day and was in the process of getting it back together when he decided the hard chrome on the slide wasn't up to his standards so he sent it back to the plater. I probably won't see it till later this month.  But this is all good as it shows Bob's attention to detail and his desire to put out only the best from his shop.  I'm happy to wait because I know it will be worth it.

Can you show some close ups of the beavertail fit?

Glad you posted up a followup. Mr. Miller did outstanding work the first time around, and it seems with your new choices that he outdid himself the second time. Now it looks (to me) both beautiful and well-balanced. I'll bet you are loving that beavertail too.

Pulp,
Oh yeah, if there's one thing I've learned from this experience is that I NEED a beavertail on my 1911's.  I can't begin to describe how well it shoots.

Now Trumpet, we just need you to change your avatar to your new Custom rig.  I think I sent you a hat too, didn't I?  It would go great in the picture

Take care,
Bob

Yes I am aware of that.  What I would like to see is an up close pic of the beavertail fit, not a side shot from the distance.

Thanks for the list. Couple of followup Q's if you don't mind?...

What MIM parts does a Colt S70 re-issue have? I read that the sear and disconnect are MIM? What else?

What's the deal with replacing the plunger tube, what's wrong with the factory part?

Thanks

Many people will pop off the plunger tube and re-install them.  I will not.  The price of a new tube is minimal compared to the bennifit for a new one.  If I spend the time to polish the flats and build a custom rig, I don't want a plunger tube coming loose to ruin the reliability of the pistol.  Staking of the tube means flaring out the ends of the posts.  When you pop them off, generally the flare separates from the post.  It's near impossible to get a good stake when that happens.

The cost bennefit ratio leads me to refuse the installation of an old tube and only install a new tube when applicable.
