As a follow-up to my previous "minimum mods to a defensive 1911" thread:

On a stock Springfield Armory GI, what MIM internals should be replaced with high-quality parts to ensure long life and reliability?

Parts I'm already planning on changing:
trigger
hammer
grip safety
thumb safety
MHS
slide stop (?)

Thanks guys! You've been very helpful.

FP stop, slide stop, and safeties would be my main ones

If you're replacing the hammer, I would also replace the sear and disconnector.  These parts will need to be fit for a good and safe trigger pull.

I knew I'd seen that somewhere before. Thanks for posting the link!

Sounds good all. Thanks again for the help. Getting excited...

The only parts that remotely worry me are the slide stop and the firing pin stop.

I have a bit over 9k rds through my MIMber, on all stock parts...except the FP stop and the slide stop, both of which were replaced with Ed Brown parts.

I replaced the firing pin stop, slide stop, thumb safety, hammer strut, and all pins in my Mil-spec...all springs were replaced, as well as the recoil spring guide and mainspring housing. Hammer, trigger, sear, disconnector, and grip safety were not replaced; outside of the hammer, they are pretty low-stress parts.

I don't know that the EB parts are that much of an upgrade. If you're really concerned about the slide stop and FP stop, you'd be better served getting the Wilson bullet proof parts which are machined from bar stock. The other slide stop I know of that is truly machined from bar stock is the one offered from Nighthawk.

ALong with the parts mentioned, I would replace the main housing spring and ILS with something better. I dont like the laynard loop and the humped back back strap, so I got a flat one without the ILS.
