doesn't look very "instant access"....whatever code you have to enter and with small buttons in a stressed state would not make for an easy to use "instant access" safe

....I don't have anything to contribute but that.

I agree, those buttons look small. I use the gun vault brand for bedside and it works well. you are able to program the code as simple or complex as you like. I set mine up to use a simple sequence of only two of the buttons to help keep it easy under stress. Unless the one your looking at has similar abilities, I would pass.

If I was to do it over, I would gladly pay the extra money to get one that reads your fingerprint.

Not to hijack the thread from the OP, but I thought about one of these and then realized that in my line of work I routinely cut and scrape up my fingers.  Would these types of locks still function properly with my fingerprint sliced across, or a surface smoothed out from burning it on hot metal??

No experience with that one, but my experience in general with "electronic" systems like this indicates they should not be trusted. when it comes to getting access to any life-saving tool, such as a firearm.  They're not to be trusted, they fail.

Looks fine as long as the gun comes out at night when you want it and you're not fumbling it once you hear the glass break.

They're not 100% even with perfectly clean fingerprints.  They're nearly useless when you use different pressure or vary the part of the thumb you press to the sensor as compared to your registration scan.  So when you record your fingerprint when pressing lightly and then press hard when under stress, it isn't going to work.  It isn't going to work either when you press closer to the tip when in a hurry.

With the last project I did w/ fingerprint scanners I used Biometrika optical fingerprint scanner with software from Neurotechnologija.  The optical scanner and software was about $750 per unit.  It is much higher quality than you would get with a gun safe.  Even with a lot of work we still only got it to work about 80% of the time with three attempts for a group of office workers.  The manufacturer said that was about what you would expect with the confidence level we had to use to avoid false positives.  There's no way I'd trust a safe with a fingerprint scanner.z

Great, thanks for that info.  Guess I'll be staying away from those then.

I have been using this one for about a year.  I access it twice a day and have had no issues yet.  I got it off of ebay for $100 shipped I think.  You can set any kind of push button code you want for very fast access.  It also has the key if the keypad doesn't work.

That's the way I feel.  I can't trust electrical ones. Thanks for your feedback you guys rock.

Im leaning pretty heavily towards this one.  Anyone here have one of these yet?  I know they're a little newer on the market.

Indeed.  This one's a much better option.

I'd go with a V-Line.
