This is in response to being made fun of by some on this board about carrying so much gear.
Last night, my girlfriend Sarah's horse broke out of the fence and ran off into the night. My rechargeable Streamlight is temporarily out of commision due to a broken bulb, so I was stuck in the middle of a dark pasture with just the gear on me. Fortunately, I carry two flashlights at all times. I was able to let Sarah use my E2D and I still had my little NiteCore to use. We found her horse a few fields over, and got him back into his stall. Just a reminder that flashlights are very useful besides just for fighting, and when something important happens, if the tool you need is much more than arm's length away, it might as well be at home. |

I carry two lights at night. I have one light I carry all the time as a utility light and a second light I carry at night that I never use so I knew the batteries are fresh.
The one and only time I really needed a light years ago the batteries died. It was a horrible feeling. |

Good deal, OP. Always nice to be vindicated for carrying what you need.
I musta missed the thread where some were "poking fun" for what you carry.................at any rate, fuck 'em. YOU know what YOU will carry to remain at a maximum level of preparedness. I too carry 2 lights on me most times, definitely at night. "Two is one and one is none" may be a bit cliche at this point, but to me it rings true when referring to things of importance..........knives, guns, lights, ammo, etc. etc. |

I always have one light on me, and usually a few with me in the truck. A few years back my truck broke down on the way home, my 6P bulb blew, my batts were dead in my truck light (maglight) and I had no ambient light to see in the engine bay to find out the battery terminals were loose until I remembered my Photon press light.
At 10 lumens it was small, but in a pinch it felt like a spot light compared to nothing! Now imagine how you would feel if your weapon light went out and you had no backup? http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=3&f=20&t=412780 |
Cool dude. When I work I carry two lights as well, but EDC I just do not have the pocket space for a light. I'm looking into a mag/light holder though so I can at least have one. I am at the beginning phase of buying gear so I'm still a little short on it sometimes, but its good to hear carrying a backup payed off.

Backup flashlights ? You oughta see my flight bag: 1 two "D" cell Maglight with LED bulb, 1 two "AA" Maglight, original bulb, 2 CSI type LED flashlights, 1 strap-on-the head LED light, and, just in case all else fails, a crank flashlight, no batteries !!
I've been looking at the "Lifetime" flashlight from 5.11 tactical. Anyone have one ? Likes/dislikes ? |
