Opinions/Experiences requested, please.

I am planning to utilize a Glock 19 or 17, with TLR-1,  as a "house gun."  This weapon will be primarily for the use of my (properly trained) fiance'.  The choice of 19 or 17 is still open, but she shoots well with the 9mm Glock, and since I have both, so much the better!

Which of the following rounds/loadings would likely have the least muzzle flash with the G-17 or G-19?
124 Gr Federal HST
124 Gr +p Federal HST
147 Gr Federal HST
147 Gr Winchester Ranger (RA9T).

Although I carry a .40 (180 gr HST), I have limited night-time experience with these 9mm loads.  I want her to have any possible advantage if employing the weapon at night, (most likely time, when I may be working).

Thanks for any insight.

You could test them.  Problem is, every flash except the first would be seen from contaminated eyes.  Another thing you could try, would be to grab a reloading manual, look up representative  loads which approximate the factory ammo you're considering, and see how much powder each has.  If the flash is the powder that is still burning by the time u get it out the muzzle, then the elss powder you use, the less flash you will see.

Hornady critical defense boasts to have a very low muzzle flash you might consider those

Does Glock still sell their flash suppressor for threaded barrels?  I saw it in a "Gun Bible."

The TLR-1 will be MUCH brighter than the muzzle flash.  I'm not sure of the details of your home defense environment but if she is identifying the intruder with her TLR-1 her night vision will already be shot.

100% that.  Whatever muzzle flash there may be will be absolutely irrelevant.

Most quality self defense ammo will have a very low, often red, muzzle flash.

The issue of muzzle flash becomes negligible when you bring a TLR1 into the mix.  The light 'bounced' off the BG will be much more than the muzzle flash.

This is an excellent reason why it's good to get out and shoot at night or in awkward conditions, as it's more than likely you will be caught off guard or in an uncomfortable position when you have to shoot.

I'd imagine that the +p loads will be a tad brighter.

I wouldn't worry too much about the flash if you have a flashlight. It's the noise you should be more worried about.

Have you ever fired a handgun indoors without earpro? 9mm isn't too bad, but let off a few rounds rapidly and your head will be swimming.
