After about a 7 month wait on Springfield, I found the 1911 I wanted on gunbroker and jumped on it. It was sold as "used" but it doesn't look like it's had more than 15 or 20 rounds through it (IF THAT!) The frame under the grips say it was imported in 2006, so I'm guessing the original owner put it in a nightstand and never touched it. I have some tiny hands, so I needed to make some modifications. First thing I did was install a new Cylinder and Slide short trigger. Man, that thing is NICE! There is no takeup before it hits the grip safety, and the overall travel of the trigger is less than a tenth of an inch, and it breaks like glass at about 4lbs. it's very nice. 8) Then I installed an original style firing pin stop Next I installed an Ed Brown safety to get rid of the ambidextrous monstrosity. Last were some slim-line alumagrips. I've put 100 rnds through it so far, and I LOVE it. Recoil isn't nearly as bad as I expected, and it's damn accurate. No malfs of any kind so far. Next is to send it off to Springfield's Custom shop for a bobtail job, and probably have the frame refinished black to match the slide. http://oregonstate.edu/~ruckerja/arfcom/1911/1911_4.jpg That's a beautiful piece, man... I dig the GI type trigger... nice. |
