Just picked up a NIB Glock 19 Gen 2
It has all original black parts. I read where there is a recall.
“LF” prefix

What should I do with it?
I have other Glocks but wanted a retro Glock like I used to have as a kid.

Couple choices.  Leave it as is as a cool collector piece.  Shoot it as it. It will probably work fine. Have a glock armorer swap out the parts. Swap out the parts yourself. Theire not very expensive.

I would look into the value of it.
Some of those old Glocks are starting to be collectible.

Go to Glocktalk and post in the collectors section.
I would ask those folks if it is anything special.

I do know that the black parts and the noncaptive recoil spring elevate the value of the gun.
That two piece recoil spring alone is like $100.

If you insist on it being a shooter, do not have a Glock armorer do the work because they will keep the black parts that hold value.
Buy replacement parts and swap them yourself.

Post up some picks of the thing!

I too have a G19 Gen 2 and also a G17 Gen 2. Both have the original box and mags- U notch. Don’t shoot the 19. Very collectible now and more so in the future. Forget about having it and get 1,000 plus in a few years.

Good points. I have at the moment lots of Glocks. My favorite the G19.3

I picked up a G17.2 recently and this G19.2
I think I’ll just keep it new. I have a G23.2 with a 9mm barrel to shoot/carry.

A G17.2 was my first 4473 purchase years ago as a kid. Of course .40 was coming about and my dumbass sold the 17.

I’ll post pics soon.

I’d leave it as is NIB.

OP, think twice about letting anybody dick with it.

They'll try and keep your black parts (at a minimum).  They are worth a pretty penny.

The trigger on my unmolested old 19.2 is freaking sweet.  I keep it clean.  I'd never send it to Glock for their 'free safety upgrade'.

I'd buy a gen 5 19 and leave the gen 2 NIB

I have a 228 that I got NIB and wish I would've kept it that way

Personally, I would leave it as is period.  Finding a NIB 2nd Gen with the original black parts is extremely hard to do.  It's an awesome conversation piece and can be used if needed.

If you want a shooter, get a newer one and use it, but I wouldn't do a thing to that one.

As a side note, if you leave it alone and ever want to move it, give me a shout, I would love to have one myself just like that, without any changes.

That recall was during gen2. Black parts, crap, that was a while back.
Anyway, leave it. Unless of course you have other plans.
That one you scored don’t appear daily. They’ve become fewer
and fewer over the past decade especially.

Nice score.

Add: question, does it have a makers mark other side?
I use to collect G19’s. Still have all them except three I gifted to family.

Add @kurtvice

For some reason I thought of this thread.
Question. Does your newly acquired G19 gen 2 have a makers mark on the other side?

Still have one I bought around '94

XX serial number, I had the upgrade done way back when when I first got it

What was the recall for?

Was it a serious issue?

Not sure what you referring to, but I think
it’s the internal parts change out back in the 90’s.

No, not serious fast answer.

@kurtvice

Thanks. That’s a sweet G19 with makers mark you scored.
Yes, it’s there (makers mark) in the pic you sent, very nice score dude.

Add: It’s worth two G19’s. ( imo) if you was to part with it. Hit me up (and leave it as is.)

I have a gen 2 G17 in that same Tupperware box with all the papers. It was my first Glock. At the time people were fretting about cheap steel Russian ammo. So bought a couple of cases and ran them through the pistol, never cleaning it. No a single issue. Pull the trigger, it went bang. I still haven’t cleaned it to this day

@kurtvice

Your G19 is  late Dec 1989 manufacture or very early (Jan 1990) My earliest
ones date 1988 (DHxxx range).

@kurtvice

Add; I saw your response no makers mark.
The one you picked up is nice. Keep it, shoot it.
Save the black parts.

I have gen 2’s both with makers marks and without.
I have a lil collection of G19’s and would be willing to add a very nice
early gen 2 with makers mark. That’s about it though.
Lost most all interest acquiring more Glocks.

Enjoy your new tool. Nice.

The “new in box” one in this thread has no maker mark.
In the dm I sent, was a pic of the “shooter” I advised I picked up to shoot. It has the maker mark. It’s a KMxxx serial range.

For some reason, it shoots more accurate than any Glock I’ve ever shot. Headshots at 25 yards are pretty easy.

I wasn’t aware the 19’s had the black internals, I thought that was a gen1 17 thing.

OP, only YOU can decide what to do with it.

I wouldn't expect the value to shoot up massively if you store it safely in the bottom of your underwear drawer.

My friends seem to be mostly indifferent to such things. So "showing it off" only produces an indifferent shrug, and maybe some offhand comment.

What did YOU want it for?

Use it for that.

Just because its "rare," doesn't mean its particularly valuable.

Any gun they manufactured up till the change date.
17, 17L, 19 (I’ve never observed a C model w/this but it would not surprise me if they’re out there.)
20, 21 AFAIK
