Hey gang, I can not find a schematic on the FNS40 ANY PLACE. I do a lot of cerakoteing and this pistol is driving me nuts.

First, I can not get the extractor out of the pistol? Looking at it, it seems like it should be pushed in and lifted... Tried that with no luck. I am not coating the slide so I have to be very careful not to scratch the finish as it sits.

Second, the front pin that holds the rail the slide sits on is not moving. I literally bent a pin punch trying to get the pin out... I was afraid I was going to damage the pin or frame so, I gave it a rest to look for answers?

I have rear pin out, the whole back mechanism (thats all out as well), I have the take down lever out, and one of the secondary pin that holds that metal rail in place is out.

Furthermore, can anyone tell me how to get the ambi-mag release out and get it back in? I have run into major headaches with a few mag release parts on other poly pistols so, I want to make sure I know exactly how it comes out and goes back in before I attempt to take that out.

Any/all help would be great! Anyone know of a video link that shows a disassembly and reassembly of the pistol? Even a Schematic would help at this point.... I did not see one on FN's website and there is not anything in the owners manual.

Thanks in advance!

Hey, I am looking at trying to clean up the terrible trigger on my FNS-9 and I am a little apprehensive about removing the sear block . You stated that you had it out.  Does it come out in one piece or does it fall apart once you get it out of the frame?

-to remove the extractor you need to push the plunger thats right behind the extractor back into the slide. then slide the extractor rearward while rotating the front of the extractor inwards.

-the front pin that holds the front rail in bang it out from left to right. its very tight by design.

-the sear block when it comes out it will attempt to separate itself, it wont shoot apart but it is too halves so be aware. also if you have the model with the small external safety BE VERY CAREFUL TAKING THE SEAR BLOCK OUT THERE IS A SMALL SPRING AND BALL BEARING THATS EASY TO LOSE.

-the mag release is easy, with the slide off look into the frame at the mag release use a pick or small punch to hook onto one of the loops on the mag release spring and slide it up away from the release.

Disassembly Steps:

•Lock the slide to the rear and rotate the takedown lever down till it stops.
•Slowly close the slide, pull the trigger, and slide it forward off the front of the frame.
•Lift the recoil spring and guide rod from the slide.
•Lift the barrel from the slide.
•With a small tool depress this plunger into the slide while simultaneously sliding the rear plate down.  Control the firing pin as it is released to avoid losing parts.
•The firing pin spring and plunger, the firing pin and the firing pin return spring can now be removed.  Note that the firing pin has a small pin that fits transversely that holds a small plunger inside the firing pin.
•The extractor can be removed by pushing back on the plunger and rolling the extractor forward into the ejection port.
•If necessary, the front and rear sights can be removed by pushing them out to the right.
•Drive out this roll pin at the rear of the frame.
•Move the takedown lever to the halfway point (about 45 degrees down) and use a small screwdriver to displace the spring leg slightly inward.  This will allow the takedown lever to be removed out the left side of the frame.
•Drive out this pin just forward of the takedown lever.  It is in very tightly.
•Drive out the trigger pin.
•Lift the frame rail from the frame.
•Removed the takedown lever/slide stop spring.
•Remove the slide stop.
•Lift out the sear housing and trigger assembly.
•The magazine catch can be removed by lifting the spring straight up and pushing the magazine catch out to either side.
•The backstrap can be removed by inserting a small punch into the hole in the strap and depressing the light spring inside.  Simultaneously push the backstrap down and off the frame.
•Pull the safety lever from the sear housing.  Hold the housing firmly as it will split and fall apart if not held. There is a spring and detent ball on the left side.  Do not lose them.
•Unlatch the trigger bars from their pin.
•Pull forward slightly on the trigger bar pin to free the disconnector and spring to be pulled from the left side of the housing.
•Separate one side of the housing from the other.  The parts should stay in one or the other. Lift the sear assembly from the housing.
•Removing this pin will free the sear return spring.
•Pull this pin to separate the sear assembly.
•The trigger assembly can be disassembled if necessary, by driving out this roll pin to remove the bottom half of the trigger, and the solid pin to remove the trigger bar.

Is there an illustrated guide somewhere?  Your instruction seem to imply that there are accompanying images...

yes there is, the FNH FNS-9/40 armorers manual. I dont have access to that but I know "a guy" who had access to it all he could send me was the written part. I should have made a video when i stripped mine down to cerakote the frame patriot brown and slide burnt bronze.

Ok, I see.

It sounds very similar to an M&P tear down.  The sliding sear makes the sear block a bit more complicated though.

My FNS-9 is the one with the safety.  However, I am selling that one today and my non-safety version is already sitting at my dealer waiting for me to pick up.

I did clean up the trigger break a lot just with some sandpaper and working over the sear engagement area on the plunger/striker/thingy...
