I have a sig 228 in great condition. The FFL dealer that I use found out that I had a 228 and has been looking for one for his daughter. He offered me a straight up trade. He offered me a two-tone sig 229R .40 S&W. My pistol is in immaculate condition and has less than 200 rounds through it. He got his from SIG, after it got reconditioned. I looked his over, and besides the usual marks from regular use, it's looks like a pretty clean pistol. I can go shoot it whenever I want to get a feel for it. I'm gonna be using whatever I get for concealed carry, and I do like the idea of a .40 over a 9mm. Is this a good deal price wise? What to do, what to do.........Lemme know what ya'll think. Matt, I sell Sigs all day long and a P228 in mint condition will always be desirable to the "Sig Guys" and will hold its value better than that of any other current production Sig. Since the P228 has been discontinued here in the U.S. it will become harder to get over time while the P229 is easily available. I wouldn't trade it for a P229 unless it is a special run version especially a used P229. I hope this helps and let me know if you have other questions I can help you with. |
The P229 is indeed a stronger pistol due to the slide being milled vs. stamped. However, the P228 is much more deiseable to the "Sig Guy" and will be worth more down the road if conditions are the same. Since there is limited info on the P229 I would have to guess it is a Nitron and they are a dime a dozen and nothing special other than a quality pistol just as with any Sig. Keep the P228! |

I own a P228 and two P229Rs (in 9mm & .40S&W). Personally, I wouldn't do the trade. The P228 has been discontinued for civillian sales. They're getting harder and harder to come by. If you don't really care for your P228, then consider it. If you love your P228, then don't sell it. I've made the mistake of selling a pistol that I was happy with because someone gave me a decent offer. I'll never make that mistake again. |
