I need a handgun that is cheap, will function 100%, and is not a full sized pistol for a trunk gun.  I don't care about accuracy, looks, etc.  It can be a semi auto or revolver.  Prefer 9mm or smaller, but not required.  By cheap I'm taking under $200.

Does anything fit that bill?

Thanks

Well, the S&W sigma runs about $250 with a $50 rebate.  Used police Glock 22's about $360.  But they are both full sized pistols.  Kel-Tecs also run in the $250s.

What about a Hi-Point pistol....they are ugly as all hell and very cheap and from the numerous reviews seem to go bang every time.

Why are you saying you need a "Trunk Gun", but it can't be a full sized pistol?     It makes no sense.

One of the Makarov types is going to be your best option in that price range.  The above mentioned one is what I would get, from CDNN.

Sorry but i've seen two not make it through a full mag. First time was at an indoor range and a security out fit was qualifying poor guy couldn't get two rounds off without it jamming on him. Second time a coworker of mine bought one in 45 and it would choke every mag. we tried more lube and cleaning it but no luck.

At least it looks scary and with that huge slide you could probably beat someone pretty badly with it.

Pa-63 if it absolutely has to be under $200.

I guess I'll Zig to everyone's Zag and recommend a 3rd gen Smith and Wesson for the +$200, common caliber choice.

I like the idea of a 3rd gen S&W. If not this, or if you really can't spend any more, then a used S&W revolver.

+1 for your specs. That or an appearance challenged S&W or Ruger revolver

Beat-up S&W .38 revolvers can often be had around the $250 mark.

I've personally never seen a centerfire semi-auto pistol for under $200 that I would trust my life on after it went through the abuse of living in a trunk for god knows how long? The only thing you might get lucky enough to find in your price range that would do the trick is an older SS revolver but even then, getting a decent one for under $200 may prove difficult? I found a S&W M65 with 4" barrel for close to $250 once so you might be able to get an older Ruger for less?

i purchased a 3rd generation Smith about 5 years ago for just this purpose. It was a typical S&W 9mm that I couldn't hit squat with. For the difference in price I promised myself that I would never go cheap on a pistol again. I found it just wasn't worth it. It's not that I need to spend $1500 on a pistol to feel good about it, but for $400 you can get a great Springfield Armory or Glock and just know you have a good gun that you don't need to worry about.

I know its better to have the hi points mags loaded to one less. So if it holds 8 rounds only put seven in. I have a friend who bough one for fun and to see if they were all that bad. It never jammed with seven in the mag but has ALOT of problems with 8 rounds in it

Russian Makarov 9x18
But I agree, a S&W model 65 or 66 would be perfect.

PA-63.

Any of the other comblock milsurps would do as well, but none are under $200 any more.

PA-63 is the best bang-for-buck firearm I've ever purchased. Re-spring it for $15 and it'll be a great pistol for your application, I'm thinking about picking up a few more just to have one in each vehicle.

For another $50 you could get a used Ruger P85 or P89 or even an FEG Hipower.
