I just bought a new Kahr CW40 after reading about it, manhandling it in the past 4 gun shows, and renting it 3 times at the range. I love the super compact of the gun that has barrel longer than 3 inches. I love just everything about it except for the recoil spring, which is very difficult for me to put back. I actually scratch the bottom part of the slide from doing it.

I did field strip and put the rental Kahr back to make sure I like how I like it. The rental guns (diff Kahr CW40 each time) didn't have very tough spring as they are probably old from rental usage. This new spring is a pain and can put somebody's eye out.

My question for everyone: Is there a aftermarket captive recoil spring kit for CW40?

Much gracias.

I have a new CW40 that I cleaned for the first time yesterday.  The spring is strong, but I didn't notice it being as bad as yours.  Perhaps you need to call customer service and have them send you a new spring.  The least they can do is tell you if your spring is normal or not.

Good luck.

I bought a lightly used CW40. I had some troubles putting the spring on, and my gf had even greater problems with it.

What I do is put the guide rod vertically and press it against a table surface and then press the spring down, hold it, and transplant it onto the gun. It works well... especially for my gf. :)
