Fellas I have a P-220 in 45 acp and want to shoot what I feed my other 45, a Kimber 1911, anyway, I recently found out the p-220 has a 20lb recoil spring in it, I'm going to get a calibration pack from wolff, At the time the 220 was shooting low, and I was getting stove pipes, while a lighter recoil spring will probably improve reliabilty, I'm wondering if POI will also change, loads I was using was 200gr swc, with 4.0gr Clays, OAl at 1.247,and a speer 200gr hp, with 5.5gr bullseye, this load fed, but shot low, was very accurate in kimber,  What SWC loads can I use reliably in a p220? what LB spring  are you using?  I'm running a 16lb spring in the kimber, I'm thinking I may need the same in the SIG, I really want to get this thing to work, one thing I don't have any use for is a ammo sensitive pistol, I would prefer it to digest any ammo I put in it,reliably, So far, the Kimber has been doing that, and the SIG has'nt,  Any suggestions welcome, Was also planning to use the SIG as a carry peice as we now have CCW in Oh.  Gun was NIB when bought, and has about 4-500 rounds on it,I plan on putting on at least 500 more before I make a decision on what to do with it, I've been using titegroup, red dot, and clays for 45 loads in the past and have all three powders now.I really do like the SIG and feel it would make a nice carry gun,I'm just wondering if this is one of those handguns that runs best on factory ammo only......

The spring weight is not a standard for the cartidge being used, but more for the specific firearm.
The mass of the slide will help to determine the spring weight.

I don't have a 220, I do have a 226 in .40 that will eat anything reliably including super cheap reloaded ball.

I have a 18# in my .45 to help lengthen the service life.

Have you baselined the SIG's function with any shelf ammo? Make sure there is no other issue first.

Any load change should change POI.

Thats probably no help to you. Good luck.

Mine has the stiffest spring of any .45 but has been flawless with factory ammo...which should be used for carry anyway.
Then you can leave that spring in it.
The green colored spring seems way too stiff for target loads anyway.
I would guess if the next 500 rounds you shoot were factory made, you would get 100% reliability.
As for the Kimber feeding anything, it may, but perhaps at the expense of some battering with the hotter loads to use the SWC and it's lighter powder charge interchangably.

Older sig 220's came with factory 15lb recoil springs with the newer guns having 20lb.

If you're going to feed it puff loads you need a lower spring weight, if you're going to carry it with you'll want to keep the 20lb spring and start using full power loads for practice.

Load 'em up a little hotter. I use Winchester Super Target at max  loads and is accurate as hell in my P-220.

One other thing you may want to take into consideration is the use of a lead bullet.  I suppose that is the swc you were talking about.  I am not certain, but I don't think you are supposed to be shooting lead in sig barrels.  Someone correct me if I am wrong.  I would like to know the certainty of that.  But it might be something to take into consideration!

Your wrong.

Leads fine. Bitch to clean but other than that, leads okay.

Assuming of course you don't mind a little poison

Take it from a Sig armorer, lead is 100% fine to shoot. Glock states no lead but if it is hard cast they work in Glocks too.  Sigs have conventional rifled barrels and will shoot lead as well as jacketed ammo all day long.
