| Heya fellas i'm in the market for a .40 but I am not a market watcher. Which .40s are good to excellent quality. Many thanks. |
|
budget? right now, the G22/23 and SW PD trade ins are heavy in the used market for $400 or less.... CDNN might have some more Sig P-226/P-229s in .40sw still around for the same price personally, i would check out: HK USP, Sig, (these 2 esp) and Glock's .40sw for thier respected benefits and 'shortcommings' |

If you can stand the glock grip angle, it's a great gun and a great value. I prefer the USP and think it's top of the line. SIG is worth a look, but I hate transitioning from one trigger pull to the other, and didn't like the DAK too much. I like the way the S&W 4006 shoots. |

Well, you can get all of the things suggested so far for $800 or less. I'd go and shoot some if possible; try renting a few. Lacking that, hold some and see how they feel and point for you. Everybody who gives you advice is going to be biased, but the ones who tell you the USP is the best .40 are actually correct. |
| Go to a shooting range that rents pistols and, ans rent what you think you might be interested in. Thats what I did and bought the XD-40 over the Glock, and the POS S&W sigma. If your budget is $800.00 then you can buy anything out there. If my budget was yours is I would look at the HK,FNP, sig. |
+1 on Alpha's comments. SIG P229 in .40, Glock 23 or USPc-40. mThose are exactly my 3 choices. |
| I have to say that the SIG 229 and 226 with both barrels are the best route. I have been very impressed with my SIGs and the ability to go between the .40 and .357 SIG is great. As for Walther, I have had a P99 in .40 for a while now and it has been a reel good handgun also. I perfer the SIG because I really dont enjoy the polymer frames but thats just personel preference. |
SIG 229 in .40/357 hands down. Stainless slide, alloy frame, outstanding quality with rust being largely eliminated, hi cap mags, .40 or 357 Sig with just a barrel change....it's as good as a .40 gets. When's the last "KABOOM" pic you've seen of a Sig? Thought so. :) |
