I currently carry a SIG P220 as a duty weapon but find myself wanting a Hi-Cap. pistol.  As of lately I was chosen to be a potential canadate for the S.W.A.T Team and need a weapn with accessory rail, my Sig doesnt have them, and hi-cap mags.  I like the G21 and the S.A. XD45 5" but cant decide on which one.  I would like to hear from those who shot both or own one or the other.  What are your likes and dislikes on both systems?  If there is another handgun anyone would recommend please do so.

Thanks

I would find out what the SWAT team you qualified for as a potential candidate allows, uses, and recommends.  No sense in getting a gun that isn't on the "allowed" list.  As far as the XD.  I don't think there is a SWAT team out there that uses them.  I may be wrong, but I doubt it.

In my experience glocks are easier to shoot accuratly than XD's and think you'd be very well served with the G21 or the new G21-sf. Good luck

i have the xd and love it. handles much better for me than the glock. i have put a tons of rounds downrange with zero issues.

it's where the glock should have ended up

Have you considered a 226R?

Also, I think an XD would suit you well.  I really like mine.

I love my XD also...I wish the department that I will be working for would approve them

If Glock, HK, or 1911 aren't the answers to your questions, you're asking the wrong questions.

Are you going to use this new gun for patrol duty as well?  If you shoot your current side arm all the time and you are only going to use the new handgun for SWAT why not get another Sig P220 with a rail.  Maybe the new Sig Elite, that way you have only one trigger pull to deal with.  Why the high cap question?  While on patrol duty you only have your three magazines of .45, 24 rounds with one in the chamber that’s 25.  On patrol you have no long gun on your person you only have what you have on your duty belt.  That is when you should want a high cap pistol.  When on SWAT call outs you have a long gun, either a sub gun, AR, or shotgun, you should only need the three mags for your sidearm then. During an entry if you have to go to your side arm you have a ton of other problems to deal with, just use your handgun to transition out of the mess you are in. You can also get 10 round mags for a Sig .45.  Just my thoughts but what do I know?

+1
I would prefer a Glock or HK due to mag capacity. I like them both and shoot them both equally well, but go with the one you shoot the best. But you should probably just see what your team uses and get the same thing.

That said, I'd suggest an XD-45. One-hole groups at 10 yards, first time out of the box! Absolutely reliable... and it has a rail!

My vote would be Glock, but perhaps you should find out what the SWAT guys are using...

that may well be true if you are in that .05% of the mutant human population that the glock grip angle actually fits

If 9mm is an option, I'd look at the CZ SP-01.
