Bought a CDI Israeli Hi Power with the intent of having it customized. The factory barrel is fine but has been "remarked" twice, lots of numbers on the chamber.....Since the gun is going out to be refitted I thought I would just replace the barrel so it would look a little cleaner. I'll keep the old barrel as a spare......Barsto makes a great barrel but it takes a year to get....Thought about getting a "stock" barrel but they are all serialized so that doesn't really help much....I really wish I could find an Olympic, they made a very good Hi Power barrel actually....alas, they no longer make them.

Thoughts on where I might find a good barrel?

Brownells describe the factory barrel they sell as "in the white", suggesting that it is not serialized...  you may want to give them a call. This item shows "in stock" (not surprising given the price ).

Alternatively, try EFK. I have no experience with them myself, so you should investigate their reputation first. This item looks to be out of stock, but a quick phone call will tell you their lead time. The price is more reasonable.

Holy cow - close to $500 for a new barrel from Brownells?  That is out of this world.

Have you checked out Gunbroker, there are a few for sale there.

Here is a used Barsto, it looks in pretty good shape.

Good luck in your search, I hope I never have to replace the barrel in my Hi-Power

Cheaper to buy another Hi Power! That's why I was hoping to find an Olympic etc....They actually make VERY good  barrels- all in house.......Barsto is about the only game in town though. I would have thought Storm Lake made one.....no such luck.

Having fit a number of those Olympic barrels, I can tell you that the EFK barrels are better for roughly the same price.  At least, they used to be the same price.  Inflation sucks.  Last I heard this company was near me, but I haven't seen nor heard about them in a few years.  They have changed their website, and I'm wondering if they are still in business.  Anyway, check them out:

You might also look at Cylinder and Slide.  Sometimes they have barrels sitting around the shop.  You might pick up a factory barrel cheap from them.  I purchased a barrel as well as a few slides from them in years past, and all were way cheaper than buying new from a retailer.

Edit:  I don't know why I missed the above poster's link to EFK, so sorry.  Also, eBay has had a lot of barrels lately.  I saw a factory Browning barrel go for $20 last month.

The EFK link has no barrels in stock but the .357 Sig from .40 conversions.....   I may just call my smith and see if he has any spares around, he does lots of Hi Power work...They would likely be serial numbered two piece original barrels but that's better than nothing I guess....
