In the Nov/Dec 2008 issue of "Front Sight" of the USPSA official mag, they have an article on the "Steel Challange 2008". As I read the article drooling over the various high dollar guns, I came across a pic of a 1911 that was unlike ANYTHING I've EVER seen or heard about............. Then they showed a pic of Neal Hogue's (of Hogue Grips, I guess) 1911. This gun has a slide that DOES NOT MOVE!
It says "a relatively small bolt inside the slide does all the work." I went to the Hogue web site but had no luck for pics, ditto on the USPSA web site. I will try to get one when the Nov/Dec issue becomes available on-line. Best I can figure out, this 1911 is similiar to the Benelli shotgun bolt in its operation. Just when we think there's noting new in the way of a 100 year old gun design, damned if someone doesn't come along & re-invent the wheel.............

Reminded me of the new Walther SP22 series, where the "slide" is merely an enclosure for the bolt, and it had cocking handles protruding through the "slide".
I think there's a lot to be said for a sighting platform that doesn't reciprocate, and the cycling would be unaffected by external obstructions. I bet it'd be a right bastard to try to clear a nasty malfunction, though –– especially the ones where you need to really get a tight grip on the slide. |
| I did see the Avenger in Front Sight. It looks cool but the price and availability is going to be a problem for most. I just got a STI conversion today. We ran 90 rounds of cheap Federal through it in a hurry before we had to go trick or treat. It ran great, Just like any STI. I am looking forward to seeing what it will do tomorrow. |

When did Glock start making 1911s?

Doesn't look like the one in Front Sight..............

I searched their website pics and could not find it. Does it look like a standard 1911 top-end with a hidden reciprocating bolt? The pic isn't on their web site, sir. I wrote that in the OP. No, the slide doesn't look like a "normal" 1911 slide. It looks clearly like a hybrid slide of some sort, which I guess it is. |
