Just picked up my new to me 5906, heck this thing appears to have been fired or even handled very little.   It could pass for brand new out of the box.   This thing is really nice, built like a tank.  Adjustable sights, squared off trigger guard.  Always wanted one, now I have one..... Damn, now I have to get a 3rd gen .45.  Can't wait to shoot it.

Nice score. Can I ask how much? Local or online ?

And why no PICS? With all these M&P Shield threads, its nice to see a real handgun thread pop up. ( Not a polymer Fan )

Gunbroker for $390.  A bit more than I wanted to spend but I wanted one with the square trigger guard and adjustable sights, and this one is mint condition.  The machine work, fit and finish is astounding.   Really happy I took the plunge.  No pics because I never bothered to figure out how to post one.  I own two M&P's and love them, so I guess I am a polymer fan as well.

The 5906 is a great, classic gun. WAY back when, not long after I bought my Glock 21 and started carrying it for a duty gun, it had to go back to Glock for an upgrade involving milling the slide. While it was gone, I carried a Dept issue 5906, which had been confiscated from a drug dealer in a raid and forfeited to the Dept. It had been shot quite a bit but, surprisingly, hadn't been abused. That thing was a TANK!!! I shot it a LOT trying to get used to the DA/SA trigger. It was reliable as the day is long and accurate to boot. The only thing I didn't care for was the weight from the solid stainless frame. Although, the weight made the thing shoot like a .22and, if I had had to use it and ran out of ammo, it would have also made a decent bludgeon. On the rare occasions that I have some extra cash, I look for a good, used one. Haven't found one yet in good enough shape when I have the cash, but I keep looking. Enjoy it and shoot the crap out of it!

Congrats!

I just picked one up just like yours - Square guard and adjustable sights.  Mine was kind of dirty when I first got it.  It had some really old oil or something on it that had varnished, and had collected a bit of dirt and dust.  It must have been sitting on the top shelf of someones closet for years.

Once I started cleaning it, I noticed that it was in very good condtion - barely any wear at all.  The barrel hood, breechface, and slide rails looked almost brand new.  It doesn't look like there has been more than one box of ammo put through it.

Enjoy your 5906 - they are great pistols.

Plan to shoot it a lot, but this thing is so nice I'm going to treat it well.  The polymers will take the abuse, this one is strictly a range toy.  If you are looking for one, there are a lot on gunbroker, all conditions and prices.  This was my first gunbroker purchase and it was a good experience.

Very underrated platform.

Be advised if you have the original large size trigger gurard finding leather can be a challenge.
