I've been looking around for a while to find a Champion Operator, and finally found one at a reasonable price (< $800 New)... I got it out to the range today and was fairly pleased with it over all... its nice and tight (not as tight as my MC, but still good), started off on it at about 5 yards and put the first 8 rounds in a 3" circle (most were actually tighter, but I let a few slip).

I then backed it off to about 10 yards and put the first round dead center of the same group, then the problem happened... the second round from the mag failed to feed all the way, and the slide was locked up tighter than a drum... wouldn't go back, and wouldn't go forward (although I did not try forward very hard... just enough to get some movement)... Now, I've owned handguns for over 20 years, specifically 1911's for that long, and I have never had a gun lock up like this before... so I had one of the range folks come over to take a look see (mainly since there was still a live round in there)... he couldn't budge it either... finally, at the suggestion of the head guy at the range I racked it loose by placing the front edge of the slide against the counter (for lack of a better description) of the shooting bay and giving it a good shove (fortunately not dinging anything up on the gun - one of the reasons I think I want to get rid of the FLGR on this one)... the round was badly bulged... this happened a few more times, though not to the point of locking up... unfortunately I did not have any other ammo with me to compare to the stuff I was using (HSM FMJ reloads)

Aside from the ammo issues, the gun handles pretty well... recoil is not too bad, easily manageable firing single handed both strong and weak side... although I wish they made a steel frame version.

Obligatory pic...

Not being satisfied with anything right out of the box, I did a few tweaks...

New VZ Operator II flat-bottom grips w/ Pearce finger grooves
New S&A Magwell (and new guts)... this needed some fitting to actually work (grip safety didn't want to work)...

Same problem I have had with mine. Tried the factory and Wilson mags. Also have put Ultramax and winchester through it with the same results. The only thing that seemed to function well was Gold dot( I think). Hopefully somebody will come along and give a fix or options for fix.

I think my issue was purely ammo related.  Every round that locked up had a visible defect once I got it out (one that I don't think was loading induced).  Most of it shot fine, just a round here and there.  Happened in my MC Operator also.  I'm going to cull through the rest of what I have to look for any problem rounds, as well as shot some factory stuff later this week to see what I get.
