Alright, so just today I bought a brand new Glock 30, first Glock I've ever owned. Shot it a bit, took it home, and disassembled it to clean it.
Now it's a great little gun, but I noticed something when I went to reassemble it. When the slide has been removed and is all still in once piece, the guide rod pokes out a bit, but it doesn't look like it's out too far. When I get the gun completely back together though, the guide rod pokes out an extra millimeter or so. I may not be describing it well enough, check the pictures below. Guide rod "normally": http://img4.imageshack.us/img4/4696/photo17gjc.jpg Guide rod poking out: http://img178.imageshack.us/img178/6682/photo18x.jpg Is this normal, or am I doing something wrong during the reassembly process? I've removed the slide a couple times and put it back together, each time making sure the guide rod was placed as far up and inside the slide as possible, setting the end of it right up against the circular indention that looks to be where it should be placed. Any help would be much appreciated. |

Hmm... Mine dont do that.. U sure u have it in the right groove when you put it back together?.. King Quoted:
I'll post once I get home and check mine. I dont think mine does that. Does it stick out after you cycle it? Or is that right when you pu the slid eon for the first time after being off?
As I'm putting the slide back onto the frame it's fine, up until the point where the front of the slide lines up perfectly with the front of the slide. Of course, it's not secured on to the frame yet at that point, so as soon as I pull the slide back any further to lock it to the frame I hear a click, and once the slide returns to rest the guide rod is sticking out. |

Is that gun new or used? Is that the factory guide rod? I swear i see stainless steel at the bottom of one of those pics on the guide rod. Nope, brand spanking new gun, factory everything. Edit: Actually, since I am new to Glocks I can't be 100% sure what is or isn't a factory part, here's a pic of the guide rod itself. http://img14.imageshack.us/img14/943/photo20sla.jpg http://img13.imageshack.us/img13/3196/photo21g.jpg |

That is "not" a Glock guide rod. Glock guide rod is a machined out round disc of steel, with no hole, or recessed part of the guide rod where it fits to the barrel lug. Are you sure? I've been looking around trying to see if other people have this same problem, and it seems that plenty of other people are experiencing the same issue, and I've seen several pictures of supposedly stock Glock 30 guide rods that look like mine. I've noticed that when I place it in the slot the lower section of the rod is slightly crooked, the problem may be that once the gun is in battery and the guide rod is resting against the frame, the frame serves to level the end of the guide rod, making it poke out a bit. I tried pushing on the bottom of the rod to make it straight, and it does make it poke out the end about a millimeter. I think this might be the problem. Edit...again: Yeah, I just checked a few websites that sell Glock replacement parts, and they show that the same guide rod that I have is the standard guide rod assembly for sub-compact Glocks. |

Here are pics of my G29/30 guide rod from a 2006 purchased G29 I dunno? Maybe Glock changed the manufacturing process for these? Possibly. I did see a thread on another forum talking about how someone had the same problem, called Glock for a replacement, and they sent him one EXACTLY like his imperfect spring. It may be that the new springs are faulty or something. Well, maybe not faulty, but imperfect. |

That "is" a Glock factory guide rod. The first G30 SF's came with the older style guide rod being all black at the end, the newer pistols have just what the OP posted. |

ETA: In looking at the photos again, the overhang / gap doesn't seem excessive at all. I'm thinking it is within normal limits. |
| I know exactly what the OP is talking about, except I have the G36. When I bought mine new, shot it a few times and then cleaned it. When I went to reassemble the slide I too noticed that the guide rod sticks out of the slide. I didn't worry about it, though it does look unusual. Runs fine everytime. |
| Thats funny. Mine does it. Never had any problems. I did have some issues with a lasermax laser i bought that replaces the factory slide pin. I had to send the gun and the laser to them but everything works like a champ. Im thinking its suppose to stick out. Mine is a 30SF. |

Here is mine. Mine doesnt stick out as much though.....Mine at least still sits behind the lip of the barell. Yours looks like it almost sits flush with it. Did you contact Glock yet? http://img216.imageshack.us/img216/1373/glock.jpg |
