I bought a new G23 last month.
Anyway, the new Gen4 Glock came with 3 new mags I haven't seen before. The mag isn't marked like my old mags, and only has the "Glock" marking and the numbers "1636-03". These new mags suck. I took the new G23 out today and had a very hard time getting the gun to run. Each of the 3 mags had the same malfunctions: At halfway thru the mag, the slide would stay locked to the rear and the bullet was "nose-dived" down. And a few times, the same thing would happen on the last round in the mag. I ended up counting the rounds as I fired them and the malfunction tended to happen about round #7. After firing 200 rounds of Federal 180 gr Walmart ammo, I gave up and tried my carry mags from my old G23. The Gen4 G23 functioned 100% with the old mags. Switched back to the new mags, same malfunctions.
Anyone heard of any issues with these 1636-03 mags? Edited: Title Gun was sent to Glock. 4 week turn around and sent back. I fired 200 rounds of various factory 40 cal ammo (all worked 100%), then sold the gun off. |

Try a new follower?
http://www.glockmeister.com/Glock-Magazine-Follower-for-40-Magazines-Marked-6789/productinfo/G1028-9/ strange that a new mag has a number 6 follower. My ban era mags have number 5 followers. the ban ended over a decade ago. the last mag i bought in 2015 has a #9 follower. ETA: seeing complaints online about your mag type not feeding flat nosed bullets as far back as Aug 2015. |
| I have never heard of G23s having issues with a WML. Strange that your 23G4 would be malfunctioning as you describe. I have never seen gun-caused malfunctions with a 23G4. I am also surprised Glock is treating you that way. When I had to replace my 23G3's frame (and it was my fault), it cost me $150 (including shipping) to have Glock replace literally everything but the slide, sights, and barrel (and they refinished the slide). Got the gun back within two weeks. |
| Have you ever tried 'seasoning' magazines before trying to use them? Take a piece of wood lath (like a ruler) and vigorously work the follower all the way down and let it up. Do this until it feels smooth when you let it up slow. Once you're satisfied with that, load the mag fully and set aside for a week. Usually this fixes the feeding problem. I've had to do this on every kind of gun I've had, particularly rifles. |

Classic weak ammo short stroke. Slide appears to be on top of round next to be chambered.
Duplicate it with other ammo, then worry. Hard primers = BS for a Glock. Either the striker channel is filthy, rusty, full of grease crud,or the ammo is crap. I vote crap ammo. With a shipping label, why isn't it on the way to Glock just to be sure? |

Just gonna throw out that idea that you might have already suggested, and that it isn't the gun but the shooter causing the issues. I didn't believe a shooter could affect it as much as one can until my brother and I started shooting together alot. He had several after market G22 magazines that would not run in his G22, but ran perfectly in my G22. That went on for about a year until one day we switched guns and the cheap mags ran fine in his gun with me shooting it and wouldn't run in my gun with him shooting it. After some further testing we realized something he does causes the guns to both have malfunctions very similar to what you photographed. Many call this "limp wristing" the gun but it is odd that he has the trouble he does with the cheap mags and not his factory magazines.
Just an idea, not saying that it is you but you might let someone else shoot the gun to try it out. |

Its done the same malfunction on 4 different types of 180 gr ammo: Federal, Blazer, Winchester Ranger, and Magtech. I didn't buy the Magtech. But yeah, its crap ammo. After this third and last range trip I broke the gun down to the Armorer level. Looking at all the parts I do not see anything amiss. I would rather spend my own money for a couple $20 parts than send this gun in and was hoping someone out there has seen this before. It is a pain in the ass for me to ship and receive a handgun through FedEx. Glock will probably do the same tear down and reassembly, then run a few mags thru the gun, and then return it. I don't have much faith in Glock with this. Quoted:

I sent my 17Gen4 back twice. The first time they fixed it and when I got it back it still malfunctioned. The second time I sent it back they called me and said they had the same malfunction. They replaced the gun and gave me 3 extra mags. The Customer Service from Glock was excellent. |

In my experience that's pretty much standard practice for them if a gun is returned with malfunctions. They will fire your mags in a known working gun, to isolate the problem. If those mags work in another gun, they will replace parts in your gun until it works. Sometimes they just replace everything. |

Sorry. From the angle of the photos, that is what it most resembles. Short stroking. Slide in extraction groove and nose of bullet jambed high against barrel. Only real cause of that double error happeming. Four ammos, not the ammo then.
Free trip to factory less time and no meney compared to your fruitless trial and error and posting about it. Use the PD address and they will ship it there. And pick it up there for that matter. |

Thanks for the reply. I hope Glock does go through the gun and replaces everything. As you guys can probably tell, I'm just frustrated with this thing. I think it was the second telephone call I made to Glock that did it. The C/S rep didn't seem to take the issue serious and it felt like he was putting the issue on me and my skills. I'm going to draft a letter basically of what I posted here and send in the letter and pics with the gun. I'll send it out next week sometime. |

There's nothing more frustrating than having a brand spanking new gun that doesn't work, and a company that doesn't seem to give a shit. Been there. At the very least, if you're not happy after getting it back you can trade it in on another gun. You'll take a hit for sure, but it's better than having a gun that doesn't work. Hope you get it sorted. |
