I'm taking tomorrow off to hit the range and try some new guns out. I am trying to figure out what I should bring and if I should do a solid review or just spend some time with a few new guns getting familiar with them.

I've been a Glock guy for a long time. I had a short stint with the XDm in both 9 and 45 but have moved on from them. I did trade my XDm9 straight out for a new S&W M&P9 full size with the range kit this past weekend and I also picked up a Sig P227.

I was thinking maybe I would do a Glock 19 vs M&P 9. I have plenty of IDPA type targets and a timer so I could crunch some numbers on some drills and see how I do on the clock and accuracy wise. The M&P 9 has a Nov 22, 2013 fired case with it so it has the newer upgrades that are supposed to help with accuracy.

On the flip side, I want to shoot the Sig P227 as well but don't want to cloud the battle royal above with a DA/SA pistol. Then again I may like the Sig so much I dump the strikers

So, should I just do some accuracy drills and get familiar with both the P227 and M&P 9 and leave the Glock at home or do a full comparison between the two striker fired pistols?

I will give a few thoughts after dry firing both pistols for a couple of hours.

The DA on the P227 is smooth and the SA is sweet. It does not have the SRT but the reset is very short so I am not sure what I would gain going with the Short Reset Trigger. For now I am going to keep it the way it has come from the factory. The short reach trigger however binds the skin under my fingernail into the nail itself like a pinch. I hear the standard trigger relieves that but I like the way the grip/reach feels at this time and I'm not sure if the standard trigger would make it less comfortable.

The trigger on the M&P has a very gritty take up. You can feel things engaging or passing each other as you take the trigger up. There is a distinct wall and the break is solid though it feels like different pull weights at times most of which are pretty heavy compared to my Glock. You can feel a distinct reset though it is not nearly as audible as the Glock but it is about as short. I am sure most of this will become smoother as the gun gets fired and with repetitive dry firing. The pistol points well and reminds me of the XDm though I like the low bore axis much better than the XDm. I'm not sold on the long beaver tail. I feel like my hand slides down a tad on the draw when I hit the beaver grip.

I'm leaning towards leaving the Glocks at home and spending quality time with both the Sig and S&W.

I like to hear how the guns shoot and what are the ergos; how they feel in the hand. Some accuracy targets are nice too.

I have new Rem 1911 Enhanced and the back of the safety lever was hurting my hand just dry firing. I changed that to SS Colt part after some filing and now is perfect

Good luck on your battle royal.

I also shot an M&P/Glock side by side a few years back and the Glock won out due to a better factory stock trigger, and I actually like its grip better too.

ETA:Sig Sauer's have the best DA/SA trigger out there imo, and the ergos are good to. I have shot and HK, but the trigger was really heavy for me and the grip felt huge.YMMV.

The Apex competition spring kit can help the trigger dramatically and costs less than $25.

I would like to see a review of the P227.   Just my preference.  Thanks.
