A couple weeks ago (when I turned 21), I bought my first handgun.  During the weeks and months preceeding, I had been thinking about what model I wanted to buy.  To make a long story short, I ended going with the Smith & Wesson 9VE (9mm).  Since then, I have put about 300-400 rounds through it, and it has performed flawlessly.  It's a very good gun, that comes with a very good warranty deal.

Here's a picture of it.

These are great beginner guns, IMO. Lots better than when they first came out. As you gain in knowledge & experience, you'll feel a need for a more refined gun. Just like the rest of us!

I did about the same thing. Got a SW40VE about 4 months after turning 21. It's only got 210 rounds through it at the moment, but I'm hoping to put another 50 through it this morning. The gun runs fine, but the shooter ain't so great. I'm just finally to the point I can keep them all on a sheet of paper (8.5" x 11") at 10 yards.

Anyone know what it takes to replace the striker spring? I've been told replacing that will significantly lighten the trigger pull.
