Where would I find a replacement barrel for a S & W pistol. Model 459 to be exact. Mine is almost smooth bore and would like to replace it. |
| I'd try S&W themselves. IIRC the barrels from the newer 9mm full size guns should interchange with your 459...although the S&Ws sometimes need a bit of fitting since the design is not as modern as others. Only other place I can think of right now would be maybe CDNN. |

The older "bushing type" barrel is what you need, without the "socket" on the end. One from a 639, 659 should work, but would be stainless...the 39 and 59 barrel probably would work too in blue. Of course the 439 and 459. Most "three digit" or "two digit" models barrels used a bushing on the full sized guns. The 5903, 4, 6 and 3906 barrels use no bushing...forget those. Dumb question...is it just leaded up? |
OOPS! Forgot about that pesky bushing on the 3-digit guns! Still, something sounds a bit strange here. We had S&W 5906s at our Academy for over a decade, and most had fired...conservatively...100,000+ rounds each before they were replaced...and none of those barrels were "smooth". (almost all ammo was CCI Blazer with some factory Federal and WW, but all was plated or jacketed) How does the gun group? |

Again, Ikor, I agree about the rifling being "shot out"...the alloy frame would have to be battered, worn or loose at that point...unless someone swapped barrels. The 3 digit 645 and 469, 669 had integral bushings, the 3 digit 39 and 59 series still used removable bushings, all of the same generation, causing some confusion. E-parts had LN ones for $48 but are sold out. They do have aftermarket ones, threaded/extended for more money...quality unknown. |

The frame is pretty well beaten. It has lots of small chips out of the pistol grip atc. This gun was well used. Finish is about 60%. It was only $95+ tax so I can't complain. Function is perfect, accuracy just sucks. Groups are about 8 inches at 25 yards. My 639 give me about 3 inch groups. I admit to not being the best pistol shot, but this gives you the idea. |

The 639 barrel may work, just to try it out in the 459... Those alloy frames polish up nice...to bare aluminum. With a halfway decent blue job on the slide, it might take on a new personality, once you locate a barrel...just thinkin' out loud with my fingers... [:\] |
