I have a Gen 3 23C. I've been upgrading some of the parts, and it is time to get rid of that original plastic guide rod. I have no idea what to get. What brand, what poundage etc. I know adding a metal rod will increase weight and that is something I am not worried about.

Just curious but why?

Keep the OEM rod.  Aftermarket rods are good for nothing except taking money out of your pocket.

Unless you are running custom loads that require a lighter spring to operate the best option is to replace your RSA with OEM.  Plus they are dirt cheap.

Deviating from stock weight can make the pistol no longer 100% reliable.  In my G34 I run -2# but that pistol I use in competition all other I run stock.

If you're dead set on it, Wolff with factory spring weight.

The absolute best steel guiderod for a Gen 3 Glock is the BT Guiderod's Sta-Tite. You can get it with any spring weight (including the factory weight) that you want.

As others have stated.
Unless you are using custom loads, Keep the factory weight.
If you feel like you really need a new spring and rod, Go with the Factory weight from Wolff springs.

Thanks for the advice yall. I was really just basing this off the fact I've had the firearm for 8 years.Figured an upgrade, replacement wouldn't hurt. I'm not really sure of the spring weight (I was told when I bought it, it was heavier to work with the compensator to help reduce felt recoil) 14 or 15 pounds I thought. I will definitely look into just a OEM replacement.
