Let me preface by saying that im not a big fan of off body carry but I realize that there is a time and place when it may be necessary. For me, carry at my work strictly forbidden. Like everywhere else, the only thing that stops from carrying are metal detectors and Police doing pat downs. I carry my CM9 on my person but I also have my VP9(up until a couple weeks ago it was my SP2022) in a Hazard 4 Kato. Very similar to a Maxpedition Jumbo which I carried for 5 years before switching to the Kato. In switching to the VP9 and a striker system I no longer thought it wise to just put the gun in my bag with nothing covering the trigger. I dot carry any objects int here that could get in the trigger but I still uncomfortable, even if unnecessarily. I didnt really worry about this with my 2022 as the trigger pull was significantly longer and heavier.
I had previously seen the MIC holster for Glocks and figured something like that was what I was after. The Kato actually has a dedicated pocket for concealed carry that you can use a velcro backed on size fits all holster but due to the location of this pocket I found it wouldnt work for me and I chose a different location to store the handgun. (If you're curious about the bag, let me know and I'll do a separate review on it) In addition the VP9, I also keep a TLR-1 weapon light attached while carrying off body. While I had seen trigger covers for just the trigger for a couple paces I did not come across a trigger cover that could be utilized while having a weapon light attached. I could have ordered an entire holster but I dont carry on body with a weapon light I was also trying to be price conscious. After determining what I would need I knew just who to contact. I shot off a quick email to James at Shadow Holsters( [email protected] ). I had looked over his offerings prior to contacting him and didnt see a trigger cover offered. Having worked with James several times before I knew all I had to was have a rough idea of what I wanted and he would do the rest. Sure enough I had reply back in no time that he would see what he could do. A few days, yep, DAYS, later I had a box in my mailbox with my trigger covers. Mind you I havent sent James a dime at this point. There are know shortage of kydex holster makers. Kydex is kydex so I doubt one company has a higher quality kydex than another. What separates one company apart from another is customer service, speed of service, innovation......and price. Shadow Holsters hits all those. I cant recommend James enough. On to the cover, it arrived as shown with the paracord tie which was a bonus as I was planning on having to add it.
A shot of where the VP9 sleeps during the day:
Next is a shot o how rigged the paracord to a D ring on the out side of my bag so that the cover is pulled of during the draw:
Im still working on drawing and making some minor adjustments as I go but perhaps someone else who is in the same boat as me can befit from something like this. Any comments or suggestions are welcome. |

How much did that run you? Also is there a reason you did go with this other than cost? http://www.armordilloconcealment.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=X-FER 1. I didnt know anyone was making them. 2. Definitely would have been cost at that point. I could have had James make me a full holster for that much....and have it in less than a week as opposed to a month 3. My request was more specific for off body carry in bag. That setup could have possibly worked if there was something inside my bag to snap the loop to but I specifically needed a lanyard that would remove the cover during the draw. More specifically, something I could attach to a zipper or d-ring such as i did. The snap loop would be gould for someone carryig IWB, in which case I would use a normal holster, which for me is a VMII. Im not sure on price just yet as James sent this out before I paid or we had even discussed price. Having worked with James before and knowing he would ultimately want me to be happy with something before paying for it, I assume he was waiting to hear back from me as to my thoughts before deciding on price. I will find out today and update this thread. |
