I have owned S&W's, Colts, and Currently Glocks, and Beretta's. I forgot to mention my newest family member North American arms .32 backup/summer gun. I will get to the point!! I want my next purchase to be a Sig because I have heard only great comments about them. I have checked them out at the gun shows and gun stores and like the way they feel. I am leaning towards the .40 cal but need advise whether I should pick the 229 or 239. The 239 seems to be slimmer and easier to conceal, but everyone seems to love the 229. What am I missing? Please give me all the pro's & cons between these two models. Thank You Tracker |

Part of your problem is that you are asking the wrong question. What youy should be asking is, "Which should I get first?" The 239 conceals better than the 229 but the 229 will have a longer sight radius and less percieved recoil. The longer grip of the 229 fits some people better than the shorter 239. If the primary use for this will be fun shooting, get the 229 first. If it will be a concealed carry pistol than the 239 would be a better choice. |

SGB & Sig_230, It sounds like I can't miss!! If there are no major pro's or con's I would lean towards the 239 since it would be easier to conceal. I appreciate your responses and I will keep the 239 in my sights unless someone can talk me out of it. Thanks Tracker |
Tracker My only other suggestion is for you to try holding a 225. You might just find that it was "Built Just For You".

The 239 is OK but I always feel it's about to squirt out of my hand due to the grip shape. The 225 has the best feeling grip for me (large hands) followed by the 220. The 245's grip could stand to be just a tad bit longer, but I'll admit it is darned concealable. |

To all, I thank you for your replies. I currently have own 22 cal, 32 APC, 9mm, 10mm, and 45 APC and am looking for my first .40 cal. I am not very familiar with the 225 but I will take your advice and look into it as well as the 245. I am looking for the small package to conceal and the 239 is very appealing to me. I will definately look at all the options and will not try and limit myself to just one caliber because I do not have it. I don't even own a Sig but I think I can see me being a SIGaholic. The 229 is my choice. Very well balanced in the hand, better felt recoil and is very good for waistband sticking. I've put many, many rounds through mine and it's yet to fail me. (although I replaced it as my carry gun with an H&K USP compact .40, which was replaced by what I should have gotten all along, Kimber UC II) |
