I have a g30 with stock barrell. I keep hearing to not shoot reloads with Glock's. I think due to the reload and the unsupported chamber (correct me if I am wrong please).
Im going shooting saturday and of course, there is no 45 ammo available other than personal defense ammo in my area. My boss has a ton of reloads he bought that are not lead reloads. Should I just avoid this situation and not shoot them or are they ok for my stock barrell? Like I said, im not knowledgeable on reloading ammo and the issues with it. I searched but did not return any results. Can some of you steer me right so I dont make a mistake? Thanks for any info Bob |

FYI...Every firearm manufacturer says no reloads... With a Glock the concern is ammunition that has exposed lead, it has nothing to do with the Glock partially unsupported chamber... all semi autos have partially unsupported chambers, some more some less, it's nothing new. When firing exposed lead ammunition as opposed to FMJ ammo lead collects in the Glock barrel quicker than the average barrel due to Glocks polygonal rifling which can lead to pressure problems due to the barrel becoming restricted with lead residue. You can shoot lead ammo all day long in a Glock as long as you keep the barrel clean, it's the knuckle draggers who never bother cleaning their weapon after shooting lead that have the problems. The ammo you're planning on using is FMJ you'll be good to go... have fun... |

Here's the thing.
It's just fine to run reloads through stock Glock barrels. Many, many of us do it regularly. I've put thousands of my own .40 and 9mm reloads through my own Glocks, no problems whatsoever. Be a safe, careful reloader, follow the safety guidelines, etc. and it's really not a problem. The whole "unsupported chamber" thing going around is just internet hype. Truthfully. That said.....................if I were you, I would NOT opt to shoot THOSE reloads through my own Glock. I don't advise running "unknown" reloads through anything, as you don't know how carefully they were loaded, what charge, how old the brass was, what powder, etc. etc. I can say I have a few trusted, good friends who reload, and I'd run their loads through my pistols.................but I wouldn't run reloads that were purchased elswhere. Just my advice on that. |
