MP7 and a little flitz clean them up in minutes
nickle will scratch easier but i've seen many a heavily used Colt SAA in museums hanging onto their nickle.

People in the 60/70's used to pop off their cylinders and leave them soaking in hoppes over night - this is where nickle got a bad rap

Nickle is relatively soft compared to, say, hard chrome, or some other silver finishes, but it will last for a very long time if not abused. Stay away from anything that may contain ammonia...I prefer MPro7. Mother's Mag polish and a microfiber rag works well to shine it. Flitz / Semichrome are too abrasive for most collectors (in spite of Flitz' claim to be non-abrasive it is) but some do use them and they certainly will work to polish a dull nickle finish.Holster wear will eventually happen, but not nearly as quickly as with a blued finish. Whatever cleaning solvent you use, make sure to promptly remove it ALL after cleaning...ditto for anything like WD40, etc should you spray it on your revolver. (I don't use it around my guns at all) Once cleaned and polished, use Renaissance Wax (sold by \Brownell's) as a preservative finish 'enhancer'.

Damn those are nice! Saw a similar one at the gun show Sunday and it caught my interest.

This was made in '63 or so, I started shooting it at 7 years old so it's been beat to hell by a dumbass kid who didn't realize what Granddad had given him. There are a few minor scratches that are entirely my fault, always took care to wipe fingerprints off of it tho. I was told that finger oils were bad for the finish, I don't know if that's true or not

You going for the full appearance package - Mother of Pearl grips?

Kidding, I like SS and polish with SimiChrome.

I have a Colt Combat Commander with factory Electro Less chrome, a Christmas present from my wife in the 70's..looks like brushed SS and uneven to me BUT the exposed chamber area chrome scratched to the copper base-plate the first time I shot it. Whined  to Colt, no fix, they suggested I grind to the white and polish.

Here's a picture;

See a couple of beautiful specimens here. I won't be buying any..just because.

I had to have an old-school, nickle plated, BBQ gun. It really doesn't spend a lot of time in a holster, so it hasn't had much wear. The photo is not the best, but here it is:

Both are .38 Supers, contrasting old and new styles.

I've got an uncle's Lemon Squeezer Smith and Wesson that saw a lot of duty in his pants pocket while he ran a general store ca. 1920.  Despite that, the finish is still (mostly) hanging on:
