I was curious to see if anyone has gotten their dirty mitts on a Nighthawk Custom Costa Edition? They look pretty cool.

Yep,got my mitts on one.A very nice pistol.,only thing i didnt like is the one i handled had the "Nighthawk Costa Custom" engraving done after the gun finish was done in black, the letters were silver....kinda looked like the raised white letters on my trucks tires! Was a really nice pistol.....I own a T3 Nighthawk, the Costa custom was about $1000 more in the same size. Wasnt much different other than the name line, the magwell and grips....otherwise seemed same.Price was in the $4000 range... |

I can't see paying full house, small builder custom prices for a Nighthawk. I'm sure they're nice and I'm sure the folks who own them love them but they're not my thing.
I'd get a budget Wilson, or a Guncrafter Industries before anyone's signature gun made by Nighthawk. |

Tough crowd. I've been strictly Colt, but if it were anyones else's 1911 it would be a Nighthawk. Might not be the Costa edition since the cost is right up there, but a GRP recon is definitely one I wouldn't pass up if I were in the market for one. I like the Nighthawks, I like the people I've talked to from Nighthawk and I feel their quality is pretty sound.
They seem to offer what I like in a 1911 more so than other makers. The only thing I thought might not be the best thing going on the Costa edition I held was the fiber optic front sight. While it was very nice, I feel it has the potential to break. It is a narrow front sight to begin with and that fiber optic is razor thin and exposed. That was its only issue to me. Otherwise I was drooling. |

I ordered the compact a year ago. I got it the other day. I am working in a antigun state and havent even seen it yet! But I have buyers remorse. I dont think I want the 1911 system anymore. That may change when I see it... You could just send it to me.... |

My thing with 1911's is that there's only so much that can be done to justify the retarded prices.
Lots of smiths do amazing cosmetic builds. You get a pistol that's a work of art. It obviously had alot of work go into it. But really, mechanically speaking, building a bomb proof 1911 isn't rocket science and while quality parts have gotten expensive, it's not that bad. So if a pistol is going to command a price tag that's over $2400 or so it better be absolutely stunning, as in it better be something special because any competent smith can build an utterly reliable, quality pistol that'll last your lifetime for that much. I just can't see that some shops put out stuff that's worth it IMO. Especially when the bare bones stuff from Wilson or Les Baer like the TR-Special will shoot as well as anything at just over the $2000 mark. I currently don't own any nice custom or semi-custom guns that I didn't do myself. I've been wanting a Thunder Ranch special though. Something about a nice blued gun... |
