I was wondering what the mood out there is?  I am in the market for 1911, but have a friend that has had numerous problems with the last 2 nighthawks that he has purchased.  Put it this way, he won't be buying another one.  Don't want to get into specifics but has sent one back 3-4 times and received one recently that has a cluster of issues and will be going back shortly.

Any one know what is going on over there?

I can't say whether NH was going through a rash of negative publicity for QC and poorly executed company policy or if it the direction in which the outfit is heading. I only know there were real problems there (how significant compared to Wilson or Brown or Baer in the present/past, I can't say), but I am a non-supporter who has grown even more skeptical of the company.

Yeah they are busy making works of art, like mine here. Just got it in March. Sounds like your friend had a string of bad luck needs to find another brand or get out of the 1911 business.

I have no dog in this fight, but all I can say is the fit of a recent vintage 9mm NH I examined was simply not commensurate with its price.  I'm sure it would shoot just fine, but I've seen 1911 pistols costing less than half what it costs that were fit better.

That being said, the above was a sample size of one.  Take that for what its worth.

Mine is still kicking after 10k plus. It use to be real tight. It's not anymore :/

The function and fit on my GRP is perfect, and I've never heard anything negative about their customer service; hell they pay shipping to and from if you do have a problem.

Just wondering on the more recent stuff.  I agree they make some pretty 1911's.

I have seen at least 2 other folks who had to send their 1911s back recently on this one little forum and then my friend with his two pistols....just makes you wonder.

Not sure, mine is about a year and a half old.  The poster above just received his from NHC very recently though.

I honestly don't know, all I can tell you is I never ORDER vehicles or guns. I only buy what I can inspect before purchase.

I ordered one and got it last January (2009)... It's a GRP and it has been a great gun... Finish is good, eats whatever junk I put in it, and is very accurate. I'm happy.

Yes, got mine in March, and had to send it back to have it looked at for a couple hammer follows. They never could replicate the issue, but paid for shipping to and from Arkansas none the less.

I also took the opportunity while it was with them to have them fit a flat 10-8 trigger to it, and set it at 4.3 lbs. They did all that for $30 bucks more. (cost of the trigger) Shot about 150 through it without a hiccup after that.

Yup that is some shitty customer service for ya

Never said customer service was a problem.  Just wanting to see if others had any problems with quality control.  Which it appears you did.

Yep, I guess you could say that.

I haven't had any problems with any of my Nighthawks.
Talon II bobtail
Full size Talon
GRP Recon.
All of them run with no problems at all.
I sent a bobtail rail'ed GRP in for to have a set of ambis installed. There was some confusion on the cost on my part,  and the pistol actually got lost in their facility.
I made ONE post about the problems in a 1911 forum. The dealer got a phone call the next morning from Nighthawk telling them to do whatever needed to make me happy and Nighthawk would comp the dealer.
They wouldn't let me pay anything. I offered to pay the whole amount, even the original amount I thought it would cost. They told me as long as I replied to my own post and tell the rest of the story they'd comp the entire thing to make up for all the problems I had.

Once I dig out of the money hole I'm in right now...I'll buy more Nighthawks (like I need anymore 1911s) knowing full well if there were to be a problem with one, they'll make it right

So you had some issues with your new pistol right out of the box, sent it back, had some work done on it, and have only put 150 rounds through it since you've got it back. And based on that you say NH is all that and a bag of chips?

Yeah, I guess that's what I'm saying.

I've got an Enforcer.  Sent it back once for a problem I saw with hammer follow using snap caps when I first got it.  Never saw it at the range or using real (proper weight) ammo.

It's had close to 2000 rounds through it since I got it back.  It's never had a problem of any kind at the range.

I purchased a T3 and had quite a few issues.  Lets just say no more Nighthawks for me.

I'm detecting a pattern here....

I wonder if Wilson, Baer, and Brown have the same relative numbers of QC issues on guns leaving their respective factories?  Pity there is no real way to know.

I have owned 3 Nighthawks (still have 2).  No QC or function problems with any of them, and I am picky.

I had 1 issue where the front sight stopped glowing after a week.  They paid shipping both ways and I had it back the next week.  Communication was excellent.

My next 1911 will be another NHC.

Had to send this guy back; didn't lock the slide back:

Also, ambi safety failed.  NH fixed it at their expense.  I sold it, because I didn't like the Novak adjustable sight, and i couldn't change it because of the slide cut.

Replaced it with this from Ron Wilson:

I'm not sure If I would go with NH again.  I think their product is better than their competitors', when it is good.  But their misses are significant.

At this point, if I couldn't afford to have Ron build me another one, I would not buy a 1911.  BTW he costs about the same as most semi customs.

But what do I know.  this one:  2500 rds no problemo.  Like Charlie Sheen said in Platoon:  "Fuckin' Beautiful, man. . . . . .!"

That Ron Wilson is a fine pistol, Geo. The angle of the picture, those purty ball-cuts, and the blanks almost make it look like a long slide.

Sorry to hear you had trouble with your GRP.

Check out the Nighthawk section on www.1911forum.com for some current owner feedback. There is both good and bad, from a quick look at page 1.

Here is a relevent thread: http://forums.1911forum.com/showthread.php?t=264623

Other than handling a couple Nighthawks, I have no personal experience with them.

Good advice, that forum really is the best resource available for prospective NHC customers. I followed that forum for a while before deciding to try them out.

ETA: Lot's of in that particular thread, from both sides.

Actually the best resource/forum for NIGHTHAWK is the other dedicated 1911 forum, it has had a NIGHTHAWK section alot longer and more responses from NIGHTHAWK owners, also a NIGHTHAWK rep (Larry Lyles) there to answer any questions or concerns. Here is the forum... http://forum.m1911.org/

If I was in the market for another 1911 I wouldn't hesitate to buy another Nighthawk.
