K... Here's a bit of background. I'm a student at a state University. The law says I can legally carry but school policy is that I can't. That said, I'd rather have a pistol on me vs. not and risk a purely administrative issue with the school. However, I can't always carry in a holster on campus without being "made" so I was going to get a nice pack for my books and whatnot which has a dedicated handgun pocket. I'm fanatical about never leaving my gear alone (a byproduct of being in the Marines I guess) so I'm not worried about it getting ripped off or anything. In fact, I'll most likely leave one of my Glocks in there all the time whether I'm carrying in a holster or not. My question is does someone make a nice, sturdy pack that'll carry a few notebooks and a calculator along with a pistol in a dedicated pistol pocket (probably a Glock 19) that doesn't look like a Tacticool POS? The point is to blend in so having MOLE attachments and crap all over it is sort of counterproductive. Thanks a bunch. |

Quoted: Camelbak was making civilian looking day packs with a hidden gun compartment in the bottom. You could reach inside by the small of your back and draw while wearing the pack. Yep thats the Urban Assault Concealment pack. I have the 5.11 Covert 18 and love it. It is an awesome pack for the money and has multiple carry options. I use on of the maxpedition Velcro holsters most of the time. |

I use The Wilderness Safepacker from time to time. I carried this way on vacation on Mackinac Island in a simple backpack. I had the pistol and a spare magazine should I need it, even though the likelihood was minimal. It also allowed me to have the pistol nearby during the drive to and from the area, without alarming other traffic.

Mostly my Glock 19. Easy enough to conceal.
The deal is with me sitting at a desk that's basically like the ones you had in High School it's basically faster and easier for me to get at a pistol in my bag than it would be to get to my IWB holster I usually use. (Comptac M-Tac) Plus, if I go swim laps at the pool I'd need to leave it in the car anyway so I'd just leave my bag in the car since I have a locker. For winter I'm cool with carrying a full size 1911 most of the time so I'd be cool just leaving the Glock in the bag all the time. |

I use this
http://www.lapolicegear.com/511-covrt-18-backpack.html I travel alot for work and it has held up very well. Although i usually do not carry while traveling. Search you tube for reviews. |
| I'm particularly fond of the 5.11 tactical Rush packs, the MOAB 10, has been is use for over a year now, and I think it blends quite nicely. |

Supposedly only available to LEOs, and not cheap, but Camelbak has a new pack offering that looks pretty sweet. Do a search for "Camelbak Urban Assault Concealment Hydration Pack"
There are a couple of youtube vids that show the packs and various methods of carrying with them. If I can find the right deal on one I may try to snag one for certain applications. |

I so couldn't do that. Off body carry freaks me out.
When I carry in a belly band, 12 o'clock, real low on the hips, you really can't see my gun. Granted, I carry smaller guns, but that's just how it is. Carrying this way, I can hug people, lift my shirt etc. and no one's the wiser. |

Part of the deal is this is strictly for when I'm at the university. I'm not really worried about an ordinary crime or anything but more the typical spree shooting. My childhood spent in an ultra-violent house and later time in the Grunts made me hypervigilent to body language so I'm not worried so much about being taken by surprise and I never sit by a door, in fact I'm always the guy in the "Paranoid" chair, you know, corner seat where I can see the door and the whole rest of the room. Having a father who beat the shit out of me sucked but it taught me some valuable lessons.
Basically the off body thing doesn't bother me because unless I'm the first to get shot I'm most likely going to have time to react. Most of the time I don't bother carrying because I instinctively avoid danger better than anyone I've ever met if that makes any sense. |

At my school, regular old muggings and armed robberies were relatively common. They'd get you on campus and before and after your commute home. The likeliest danger was crime, not a spree shooter. That's what I prepared for.

It's a small liberal arts university who refuses to comply with state law regarding CHL holders. I don't care enough to make an issue of it because nobody will ever know I've got the thing unless I really need it. Worst case it's a trespassing violation not a firearms violation so my licence isn't in danger. |

Just that an active shooter isn't the biggest threat to you on any campus, and that off body carry isn't very secure or practical for the likelier threats. |
