Long time ago I fell in love with the HK MK 23 after realizing that 45ACP doesn't suppress well I thought about another offensive handgun idea for some steal plate domination.
Criteria; full size pistols prefered min 15 rounds capacity stick to 9MM only must be a suppressor host(I have made up my mind on a Trident 9) must have rail for super tacticool light I thought of the Beretta M9a2 with the rail as I carry a M9 at the moment. I then got turned on to the Sig P226R combat TB, looks to be everything I am looking for an can be had with 20 round mags. HK USP is an option but I don't like them that much. Anything I am glazing over at the moment? This would just be an expensive steal plate slaying pistol nothing much more. |

Doesn't the .45 supress the best of common service calibers because it doesn't go over 1100fps in it's loadings. There's subsonic 9mm for a reason, the same reason there's no special subsonic .45. Bore size and whether the bullet will break the speed of sound are the key factors for how well a round "suppresses". 45 doesn't suppress as well as 40 which doesn't suppress as well as a subsonic 9mm which doesn't suppress as well as a subsonic .22. While 45 and 40 are easy to find subsonic ammo for (practically all 40 loads are subsonic also), 9mm can be a little more difficult to find. But subsonics vs subsonics, 9mm is quite a bit better than 45. And it's arguable that the subsonic 9mm rounds are best at penetration and personal defense of all the 9mm rounds. |

They make a version of the M&P 9mm with threaded barrel and rail. The Spec Ops version:

I will go ahead and say that in my opinion the M&P is the most viable combat handgun design on the market right now. The ergos kick glock's ass, and the features and reliability are similar. I have sold all of my other serious handguns for the M&P line. I still own 1911s but for sentimental reasons only. |

Thanks for the help so far...
Front runner; Sig P226R Combat TB Close second; Beretta 92 (only issue is its the front sight tall enough to clear a trident 9?) Polymer choice; M&P Spec-Ops stupid name to have on the side of the pistol but best bang for the buck Money no object: STI of course 1911 Platform; Para double stack off the wall idea; CZ sp-01 I always thought they had a classic look to them and they look sharp all tacticooled out I dont like the idea of just a glock or a XD with a long barrel and suppressor i might contradict myself but it just doesn't strike me like the others. |

During the first gulf war I carried a suppressor M9 with a slide lock and can. Don't remember the manufactor (will have to wait until I get home this weekend) but the suppressor had sights on top of it since it blocked the pistols' sights. Only had a few sub sonics then but carried regular M882 ball if I remember correctly. Almost used it in a situation but reach back in the hide site for my M16/203 for the upcoming fight. Fast forward 12 years later took the same pistol back to Iraq in 03! Took the slide stop off and didn't take the suppressor that time.

An easier way to put it is smaller diameter=smaller case= less expanding gas= quieter cartridge. |

Correct! An easier way to put it is smaller diameter=smaller case= less expanding gas= quieter cartridge. Well... kind of... As I understand it, the actual bore size it the most limiting factor to good suppression. Having a .45 size hole throughout the entire suppressor lets more sound escape than a .22 size hole. The "big boom" does also come into play, but not really within all the small pistol calibers. At least... that's how I understand it... |
