Is the officer frame the same size as the commander, or is it smaller?

(If I remember correctly, the commander only has a short barrel than the government model.)

Smaller.  Commander is full frame shortened slide.

Officer is shorter barrel then Commander and shorter grip on frame.

That depends on the manufacturer. Some Officers are 4.25" barrel with shorter grip.

that would be a hybrid, of sorts..........CCO as some call it........I call it the Commanding Officer

That would be a CCO, or Colt Concealed Officer, which is not an Officer. Usually constructed by placing a Commander slide on an Officer frame.

A commander frame is similar to a full size frame.  Modifications to a commander frame include a shorter dust cover, and a deeper "pocket" for the guide rod which gives the slide a bit more travel.

An officer frame is shorter in grip length by 1/2 an inch, for one less round of capacity. It thus uses a shorter mainspring housing and stiffer mainspring.  The dust cover should be slightly shorter than a commander frame, and it also incorporates the deeper pocket for the recoil assembly.

That's the frame. On the slide assembly the Officer uses a different bushing that is thinner than a standard bushing (to accomidate the officer flared barrel), and the recoil spring retaining cap is different, having a protrusion that locks it backward for dissasembly.

Very NICE.

Where did you find the grips?

I am looking for some grips as well.

Also, my wife and I were shooting it today and it would not always go completely into battery. It stopped roughly 1/8 to 1/4 of an inch out of battery. I had to push the slide forward to get it to engage. The pistol was not really well lubed however.

Does it need a stronger recoil spring or more lube when we shoot it next time?

Grips from woodgrips.com
http://woodgrips.com/1911%2045%20grips.htm

They also have thin grips if desired (remember thin grips require different bushings)

For failure to go into battery I would do 4 things:
Clean.
Grease the rails with lithium grease.
Check extractor tension.
Replace recoil spring.

So far I changed the slide stop, and the extractor.

I will also be lubing it up much more (was running it almost dry) and will be sure to replace the recoil spring as well.
