Anyone know if that combo can work ? I am looking at a RIA compact 3.5 in slide to put on my commander frame hoping someone may know if its been tried and if it works ? TIA

| it has been a bunch of years, and my experience was with Colt slides... even replacing the spring plug with a Kings to stop the bushing cracking problem, you are on the edge of reliability with such a short spring compression length... I would suggest staying with a Commander length slide... YMMV |

I've got a proper Colt Commander. It's easy to hide with a full size frame and no bobtail. Been doing it for 15+ years.
There are more IWB and OWB holster options for the Commander than I can count. I'd go that route before a CCO or a 1911 with a slide shorter that 4.25" |

Quoted: Colt put out a few, dubbed as Lieutenant Commanders. "Night Officer" too ... and mine has had the original tritium sights replaced with Novak's, though. Regarding how it,or an OACP, or a Gov't model carries, the length of the barrel is more apparent than the butt length to me. |

It's possible but it isn't nearly as good an idea as putting a Commander slide on an Officer's frame. I have a Kimber Custom Compact 1st gen and absolutely love it, one of the best configurations available. +1 I have a Kimber Compact Aluminum that's at least 17 years old. It has never so much as hiccuped in all that time. It's so light and concealable that I have no excuse not to leave home without it. |
