I am getting ready make a purchase for either an Officers Mod or Defender. Are there any real advantages to one over the other?? Mostly concerned with their ability to function flawlessly since it will be a carry pistol. Heard good things about Defenders, and that if they don't shoot right out of the box, then Colt will make it right. As for the Officer's Model, I really like option of being able to find them with steel frames. Let me know what you guys think. Found a Matter Blue Officer's ACP for $695 and a SS one for $855. Been sitting there for a while now.. like no one is interested. What do you guys think?
I have a Defender, a New Agent and a couple of Officers. They all run well. The most accurate is a mid 90s OACP Enhanced LW with the EGW recoil spring setup. The easiest to carry is the New Agent. The Defender has the "best" sights. The OACPs are easier to tear down and a little easier to shoot well. I am currently building an Officers with a stainless slide with a gutter sight milled in. You probably cannot go wrong either way. All else being equal pick which sight system you prefer.

I saw an Officers that I really liked on Gunbroker, initial bid is $855. Not sure if anyone else out there is looking at it, but it sure is calling my name. In going with the Tac Pac, I'll be able to pick and choose what I want to change out. I had never really looked into the Officer's Models, but man I really like them. I am a little bigger of a guy, so the size of the pistol shouldn't really matter. As for easier to shoot, I am guessing bc of the weight factor? Steel vs Alum... Anyway. Thanks for your input guys. |
I have both and really like both. The Officers is more accurate and more fun to shoot, but it is heavier than my defender. You can go wrong with either unless you intend to carry alot. This is why I bought the Defender because the weight of the Officers started getting to me
I also have a mid 90's Officers enhanced model also with egw guide rod set up and I added a egw barrel bushing as well. It is very accurate and I shoot it better than my full size 1911's. I love to shoot it. Can't say much about the defender as I've never shot one. I think if you shop around you can get a better deal for the officers model than the defender from what I've been seeing lately in my area.
Nice looking gun Bear84, did your come in Blue over SS, or did you have that done? Saw one that we Matter Blue, and thinking of going for that one instead of the SS one I saw. I will save about $150 or so, and either way I plan on sending it to CCS for Tac Pac and ha ING finished in SS with polished flats. Then I look at the Defenders, and I have a dilemma like RCJ's up there.. I think I may just go with thw Officer's Mod.. I like the idea of the steel frame, however, if I find it to be a pain in the ass I guess I will just have to het a Defender as well.. thats never a bad thing right. Alrt fellers, thanks for all the info.
I'm honestly not sure if it came that way or not, my father in law dropped that on me shortly after marrying his daughter. It already had the idiot scratch on it, pisses me off, but the gun still looks good in my opinion. To me, a 1911 this size is perfect for me. I can easily conceal it, and it's large enough to get my hands on it.
