So one of my friends has a P11 for his wife, she has difficulty racking the slide of the gun. They sent it my way hoping I could get the slide easier to rack.. I pulled it apart today and took a look at it. I never knew it had two springs on the guide rod so I took the small one off and put it back together. Slide was noticeably lighter when racking the gun. I went ahead and fired 10rds through the gun without the small spring and the gun ran fine(with some CHEAP ammo).

So my question is, will keeping this spring off of the gun hurt ANYTHING in the life of the gun? What could it hurt? I am honestly asking, because I don't know(brand new to handguns). If this is bad what can be done to improve the issue? Thanks

There is a reason why there are two springs. With the smaller spring removed, you lightened the pull of the slide back, but also made it easier for the slide to slam into the locking block and frame. You will get a cracked slide and worse from this.

the slide is no harder than any other I've pulled, is she pushing the gun forward at the same time she's pulling back? most folks tend to just pull, not realizing they are wasting half their strength.
