What do I need to know?

My local shop has one in classic .22 w/the beavertail frame for $549 + tax.
I'm thinking about picking it up and buying the .45 (carry) caliber exchange kit for it from SIG.
I like the SAO model because I have carried a 4" 1911 for about two years and the operations for
these two are similar.

Thanks,
lrc

Mine is my every day carry gun, the 220 Carry SAO. It shoots better than any other one I own and I never looked back! All one would want in a pistol, plus you can load and unload on safe.

Typically I'm a 1911 guy all the way.  However I've taken to carrying my 220 Elite Carry SAO more than my 1911's...  It's a beast of a gun.  However if you are used to your thumb riding the thumb safety you will have to get used to rolling your thumb down off the tab after disengaging it.  If you ride the safety on the SAO 220 the slide won't lock back on empty.

I have a P220SAO carry. My thinking was the same, being used to 1911's.

The operation of the 220SAO is not as close to a 1911 as you would think.

If you shoot with the your thumb on the safety, as the poster above says, you will engage the slide release and prevent it from locking back on an empty mag.

You can do this-

I relieved the rear of the slide stop so that my thumb would not come in contact with it.

It works, but you still have to be mindful of it.

The P220 SAO is a great choice.  I hear what all of you guys are saying about the slide release, and it looks like Dog1 has a good idea.  I'm lucky, I'm left handed.  I only have to worry about the slide release every once in a while.
