not sure what you mean by mush but that isn't normal for SiG...at the worst it might be a bit heavier than a P220 of today...if nothing was done to you Dad's pistol I might start with a thorough cleaning and lube first...if that doesn't fix it...change the springs with a kit from SiG...I wouldn't change the weights but I have never had a complaint about SiG P Series pistols since 1988...good luck with yours...
